Abstract. This paper aims to provide a thorough analysis on the application of TRIZ in improving the quality of canned food production. TRIZ tools such as engineering systems analysis, function analysis, cause and effect chain analysis, By-separation model and 40 Inventive Principles are applied in order to discover some feasible and elegant solutions to alleviate the problem. Findings revealed that the rejected canned products on the conveyor belt will be isolated or picked up with other good condition canned products which are lined up very closely to the rejected cans; though the visioning system is able detect the fault printing on the canned product. The main root cause is that the rejected canned product is picked up with other canned products in good condition because all cans are lined up on the belt and are very close to each other or having no gaps between the cans. Conversely, all cans on the conveyor belts are required to be very close to each other to avoid collisions that may damage the cans. The root cause is solved by applying function analysis, By-separation tool and Inventive Principles. Therefore, it can be concluded that TRIZ is a powerful tool in inventive problem solving.
The purpose of this study is to examine one of the success factors of Knowledge Management (KM) implementation. The paper presented an evaluation on one of the success factors of KM implementation, namely employee participation in Mechanical Engineering Division, School of Technology, Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC). A qualitative survey was conducted at TARC after the KM implementation in order to examine the significant of employee participation. Data were collected by structured interview. The finding revealed that the employee participation was one of success factors for KM implementation. This study may help the practitioners and academicians to implement KM effectively. The result may inherent some limitations of qualitative survey in term of validity. Therefore, further empirical research is recommended in a form of survey research for the organizations by using multivariate analysis to validate this finding.
Severely disabled people have difficulties to use joystick in controlling electrical power wheelchair because controlling the joystick requires a large force which is more than the threshold for severely disabled people. It is difficult for them to use joystick to provide precise commands to the electrical system of the wheelchair because they cannot control over the deck tilt angles of joystick precisely. Thus, the idea of using fingers bending motion to control electrical wheelchair provides a solution for this problem. However, trembling fingers motions from disabled people generate signal noise that cause the motion control of the wheelchair not running smoothly. The objective of this paper is to tackle signal noises that are caused by trembling fingers motion. Three filtering methods were conducted which are Moving Average, Low-Pass, and Kalman Filters. The results indicate that Kalman Filter has significantly improved the smoothness of fingers bending command signal to the electrical wheelchair as compared to Moving Average and Low-Pass Filter.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
