Owing to the growing concern of global warming and over-dependence on fossil fuels, there has been a huge interest in last years in the deployment of Photovoltaic (PV) systems for generating electricity. The output power of a PV array greatly depends, among other parameters, on solar irradiation. However, solar irradiation has an intermittent nature and suffers from rapid fluctuations. This creates challenges when integrating PV systems in the electricity grid and calls for accurate forecasting methods of solar irradiance. In this paper, we propose a triple exponential-smoothing based forecasting methodology for intrahour forecasting of the solar irradiance at future lead times. We use time-series data of measured solar irradiance, together with clear-sky solar irradiance, to forecast solar irradiance up-to a period of 20 minutes. The numerical evaluation is performed using 1 year of weather data, collected by a PV outdoor test facility on the roof of an office building in Utrecht University, Utrecht, The Netherlands. We benchmark our proposed approach with two other common forecasting approaches: persistence forecasting and average forecasting. Results show that the TES method has a better forecasting performance as it can capture the rapid fluctuations of solar irradiance with a fair degree of accuracy.
This article presents a review of the evolution of automatic post-editing, a term that describes methods to improve the output of machine translation systems, based on knowledge extracted from datasets that include post-edited content. The article describes the specificity of automatic post-editing in comparison with other tasks in machine translation, and it discusses how it may function as a complement to them. Particular detail is given in the article to the five-year period that covers the shared tasks presented in WMT conferences (2015–2019). In this period, discussion of automatic post-editing evolved from the definition of its main parameters to an announced demise, associated with the difficulties in improving output obtained by neural methods, which was then followed by renewed interest. The article debates the role and relevance of automatic post-editing, both as an academic endeavour and as a useful application in commercial workflows.
With the advent of faster internet services and growth of multimedia content, we observe a massive growth in the number of online videos. The users generate these video contents at an unprecedented rate, owing to the use of smart-phones and other hand-held video capturing devices. This creates immense potential for the advertising and marketing agencies to create personalized content for the users. In this paper, we attempt to assist the video editors to generate augmented video content, by proposing candidate spaces in video frames. We propose and release a large-scale dataset of outdoor scenes, along with manually annotated maps for candidate spaces. We also benchmark several deep-learning based semantic segmentation algorithms on this proposed dataset.
With the rapid proliferation of multimedia data in the internet, there has been a fast rise in the creation of videos for the viewers. This enables the viewers to skip the advertisement breaks in the videos, using ad blockers and 'skip ad' buttons -bringing online marketing and publicity to a stall. In this paper, we demonstrate a system that can effectively integrate a new advertisement into a video sequence. We use state-of-the-art techniques from deep learning and computational photogrammetry, for effective detection of existing adverts, and seamless integration of new adverts into video sequences. This is helpful for targeted advertisement, paving the path for next-gen publicity.
