Cesium triborate (CsB3O5) is expected to be an efficient harmonic generator in the UV region. However, as-grown single crystals of CsB3O5 often contain a high density of optical scattering centers that significantly reduce device performance. We found that these can be removed by a post-growth heat treatment with quenching. Treated crystals were employed for the third harmonic generation of a high-power Nd:YAG laser operating at 1064 nm. We generated high-power 355-nm output power of 14 W, which is three times higher than that obtained by a commercial LiB3O5 crystal under the same experimental conditions.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
