There are two important education systems. One is distance education and the other is skill development training. Distance education is an important education system provides education to the adult learners where ever they want and when ever they want. This type of distance education reaches to the door steps of the learners of masses with learner kits. The skill development training is nothing but providing training in different skills required for employable for example carpenter training, motor mechanic skill training, electrical technician skill training, computer operator skill training, construction worker skill training, beautician skill training, hair cutting skill training, hospitality and clinical heath care skill training etc;. According to Jain (2013), skill development is seen as a means to empower the individual and improve his/her employability. This paper discusses about importance of skill development and its impact on Indian GDP growth rate. Now days all the states are establishing skill development centres/skill development institutes in their own state to enhance the capability of skilled man power. The central government is also emphasizing on skill development to train the youth in different employable skills. The central government is providing a budget for skill development through Skill India initiative. In this paper, the role of IGNOU in distance education and skill development training has been discussed. The skill development training programme as a case study on electrical technician programme run by one of its school (School of Engineering and Technology) has been analyzed in the paper.
Drilling is a complex manufacturing process and its process parameter optimization enhances machining performance. Titanium alloy is extensively used in automobile and aerospace sectors because of its inherent properties. However, it is categorized into difficult to machine because of its properties. In this work, drilling process is carried out on titanium alloy with different machining conditions. Cutting conditions used are dry, wet and dry with cryogenically treated drill. Experiments are executed as per L9 orthogonal array. Statistical approaches such as orthogonal array and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) are used to find the importance and effects of machining parameters. Process parameters are optimized and the effect of significance is estimated. Input parameters include feed, cutting speed and depth of cut. Output parameter includes circularity error. The result suggests that cryogenically treated carbide tool exhibits better machining performance than the dry and wet of non-treated tool and enhance sustainability in manufacturing.
Distance learning has become a permeating and growing phenomenon. The increased demand for education showed that there is a greater need among working adults to continue their education. However, most adult workers are not able to continue their studies using the conventional means due to their work and family commitments. Distance education provides the flexibility for them to continue their studies. Moreover, the distance education is mainly intended for the people who can’t be able continue their education due to the geographical distance, economical status, cultural and traditional reasons, still there exist a large DISTANCE between the these people and the distance learning institutes in making aware of the programs, courses and in bringing effective outcomes. This paper attempts to screen out the distance between people and the distance learning institutes. Also evolution, statistics and various programs of distance learning education (DLE) have been critically reviewed. Finally, the history, opportunities, issues and challenges of DLE have been analyzed and some recommendations have been proposed in order to make the program effective. This paper brings out the positive suggestion to enhance the pass out ratio by implementing the proposed model.
This case study has been carried on Total Quality Management (TQM) implementation in an auto company. The XYZ auto company is producing auto parts and components to large scale auto companies producing the various automotive vehicles. XYZ Auto Company is the best and tier one supplier to about 3 companies and their branches located in different places. This XYZ auto company is already an ISO 9000 certified company and planning to implement the TQM philosophy and best practicing the TQM tools and techniques in the company. The top management already identified a quality team comprises distinguished members from the different departments including design, marketing, HR, production, purchase, suppliers, industrial engineering and quality etc; the team is called as TQM implementation team. Expected results after TQM implementation are improved quality of supplies, improved quality of processes, improved employee satisfaction and improved customer satisfaction. In this case study, it was found that need of TQM training is very essential for the employees in the company to get in to the TQM implementation process.
