Abstract-The current paper deals with the influence of metaphorical framing of events on public opinion from various scholarly perspectives. Treating cultural narratives employed in public discourse as an extended metaphorical frame, the paper argues that narratives make use of archetypical plots and the shared cognitive structures of human beliefs, motivations, goals, actions, events. Being systematically exposed to certain metaphorically framed narratives, people tend to change their views of events, situations and decisions affecting their lives. The authors claim that narratives serve as a powerful tool of political persuasion and present the generic model of a narrative structure.Keywords-metaphorical framing, narrative, event structure, image schema, plot, narrative dimensions and structure, political persuasion, public opinion.
The paper deals with a category of words (dialexemes) that represents a difficulty in translating as they may generate a false association in the native language, resulting in translation mistakes. The paper determines the types of dialexemes in English news reports and the methods of their translation into Russian. The aim of the research is to identify translation specificities of dialexemes. Scientific novelty lies in the fact that the study of 95 dialexemes revealed that 60 lexical units were completely false (different in semantics from a Russian incorrect translation), 35 words were partially false (phonetically, graphically and semantically identical to a Russian word in one of its meanings); the main methods of translating dialexemes were analysed. The research findings have shown that the most frequently used method of translating dialexemes into Russian is the choice of equivalent due to the polysemy of most English words. Nevertheless, when the equivalent does not fully reflect the meaning of the original word in the specific context, a number of translation transformations (analogue selection, grammatical replacement, omission, addition, specialisation, generalisation, and modulation) are used.
Research background implies changing the mechanisms of subject-to-subject interaction, control, and feedback when transiting to distance and mixed learning; one of the areas of difficulties that arise during such transition is the search for a way to partially compensate for difficulties using new visual didactic tools. Research goal includes searching for new visual didactic tools based on cognitive visualization of knowledge that support and guide educational cognitive activity, interaction, and feedback in the context of distance and classroom learning. The authors use a method for analyzing the development of visual tools based on the criterion of implementing cognitive principles of knowledge representation; a method for logical and semantic modeling of knowledge using universal educational actions; a method for constructing visual tools based on graphical visualization of logical and semantic modeling of knowledge presented in natural language (the language of study). New visual didactic tools developed by the authors, and implementing illustrative and regulatory functions, are proposed to be called “visual didactic regulators of logical and semantic type” and used for subject-to-subject interaction in distance learning. The basis of such tools is also the logical and semantic models proposed by the authors, whose usefulness has been confirmed by long-term testing in the classroom training; currently, regulators are used in distance learning as an experiment.
