Дано системное описание ряда актуальных на данный момент цифровых терминов,обладающих множеством семантических характеристик, правильное понимание которых являетсяодним из важных факторов эффективного делового общения. Используя примеры цифровыхтерминов на английском и русском языках в ходе сопоставительного анализа, авторы показываютзависимость семантических характеристик цифровых терминов от таких факторов, какморфологические и стилистические особенности, синонимия, дифференциация по сферамобщения и возможностям употребления для различных ситуаций. Описанные в статье примерыцифровой терминологии обновляют материал по исследуемой теме и мотивируют читателя кдальнейшему поиску информации по данной теме для дальнейшей научной работы исамообучения в аспекте глобальной цифровизации.
The article is devoted to the study of differences in assessment methods of face-to face and online learning of a foreign language in higher education, in particular, the issue of the effectiveness of the assessment techniques used in different formats. Numerous questions that accompanied foreign language online learning in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 academic years, as well as contradictory reviews about the assessment methods of students’ knowledge were the prerequisites of the study. The experience demonstrated that online learning differs significantly from face-to-face learning in a number of requirements for teachers and students. The aim of the study is to modify traditional methods of students’ knowledge evaluation and assessment in the form of credits or examinations towards greater independence and objectivity and achieve the autonomy of the assessment process. We carried a survey of students’ opinions on the effectiveness of the forms of assessment adopted at the higher education. Based on the survey results, recommendations are made for improving methods of students’ knowledge assessment system with respect to the educational format. The conclusions made on the basis of data analysis provide a number of changes in the methods of online assessment both in the educational process at higher education and in staff training programs.
This article explores the special role played by punctuation for the expression of emotivity in modern biographical prose. Emphasizing the importance of punctuation means, the article touches upon the currently relevant problem of analyzing emotive techniques in the literary text. In this paper, the authors briefly highlight a number of approaches to the definition of the concepts of emotionality and emotivity, then consider modern classifications of punctuation means of expressing emotions in a literary text. The main task of the research is to identify the most significant means of conveying the emotional state of the characters of the biography novel at the punctuation level and compare them with the translation of the work into Russian. The research attempts to compare the use of punctuation means of the English and Russian versions of novels using comparative and descriptive methods, to identify common features and differences in the transmission of emotivity. As for the preliminary results of the study, the authors of the article note a number of cases when a writer goes beyond conventional punctuation to create emotive content. The general conclusion consists in the presence of synergy between the punctuation design of the novel, lexical and semantic means that occasionally perform its functions in translation, and the final emotive component, equally powerful in English and Russian.
In the era of globalization and social distancing, intercultural dialogue plays a crucial role and requires a thorough reinterpretation. It is impossible without foreign language proficiency. Therefore, teaching foreign languages is a key to professional competency and personal growth. Language reflects the culture and functions as a universal tool of mutual understanding. It makes it possible to embrace the interlocutor’s mentality through grasping the peculiarities of the language. The proposed article is devoted to the validity study of the associative field technique. Its application contributes to the successful memorizing of terms and terminological expressions in a foreign language. The research considers the corresponding theoretical background devoted to the issues of intercultural communication, associative fields, and metaphorization of terms and terminological expressions in English. The methods applied in the study include comparative analysis, the method of continuous sampling, and a questionnaire survey. After the survey, the authors identified the terms that evoke associations with the notions “death” and “dead”. The article contains a number of interim conclusions with a further perspective on this issue. It is determined that the notion of “death” stands out as a representative of the “naïve” picture of the world and an initially expressive concept. In the case of a formal concept, the notion functions as a successful component of terms, especially metaphorical ones. The results of the study may be implemented in teaching a foreign language and intercultural communication, as well as in comparative linguistics and cultural studies.
