This paper addresses discrete control mechanisms that make use of synchrophasor measurement. The paper focuses on two use cases from practical experience in transmission system operation. The first case addresses managing power system oscillations with the use of early warning, constraint management and control-room response, described with reference to wellestablished practice in Australia. The second use case describes an automated response to avoid system separation between weakly interconnected generation centres in Iceland. The second case requires a faster response, and is therefore addressed by an automated control mechanism.Index Terms-power system dynamics, power system stability, oscillations, special protection, synchrophasor measurement
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
