Introduction: Daily diets of contemporary schoolchildren mainly consist of foodstuffs, which are rich in fats and carbohydrates but poor in proteins, vitamins, and trace elements. Food stereotypes associated with consumption of freeze-dried and refined food as well as fast food products have become widespread. Such negative manifestations of the eating behavior of schoolchildren are largely determined by nutritional unawareness and necessitate appropriate measures for enhancing food literacy to preserve and strengthen health of the younger generation. Objectives: To assess nutritional awareness of contemporary schoolchildren in a digital environment using a modified questionnaire. Materials and methods: We modified the questionnaire developed on the basis of ten principles of healthy eating promoted by the World Health Organization to establish healthy diet awareness of 73 Moscow fifth-year schoolchildren. The self-administered questionnaire contained 23 questions. Results: Almost all the respondents lacked the necessary level of knowledge about healthy eating: 93 % and 7 % of the schoolchildren had a moderate and low food literacy level, respectively, and none of the pupils demonstrated a high level of awareness. The diet was perceived as unbalanced or partially balanced by 14 % and 7 %, respectively, and high-calorie – by 70 % of the respondents. Only 10 % of the pupils agreed that the diet influenced their school performance, while 20 % of them were not sure about that and 70 % disagreed. Conclusions: The identified eating disorders were associated with the level of food literacy. Our questionnaire proved to be an effective tool of obtaining detailed information about dietary habits of schoolchildren, and it can therefore be recommended for a larger survey aimed at early detection of eating disorders, improvement of food literacy, and prevention of nutrition-related health problems.
Summary. Introduction: Active introduction of electronic learning tools in educational institutions poses new health risks to school-age children. Creating a modern and secure digital educational environment requires constant monitoring of the conditions and modes of use of new electronic tools, the diversity of which is changing rapidly. The purpose of this work was to assess certain parameters of indoor school environment influenced by the use of interactive panels (IPs), an e-learning tool of the latest generation. Materials and methods: We studied the parameters of electromagnetic radiation, microclimate (air temperature and relative humidity), artificial lighting levels, chemical composition of indoor air, concentrations of positive and negative air ions during the school day in classrooms with and without interactive panels. The measurements were carried out in accordance with the approved methods of laboratory and instrumental research, and the results were then assessed for compliance with current sanitary rules and regulations. Statistical processing of the results was carried out using parametric methods of statistical analysis. Results and conclusion: Indices of the microclimate and air ions in IP-equipped classrooms demonstrated a more pronounced negative dynamics during the school day. Our findings indicate the need for hygienists to pay close attention to the problem of using new electronic teaching aids and interactive panels in particular, to continue research in the area under study in order to elaborate hygienic regulations for applying IPs in the classroom and to prevent overwork and health risks to school-age children.
The digital transformation of modern education leads to the emergence of various electronic learning tools, the arsenal of which is constantly being updated. This actualizes the need to assess the potential health risks of students arising from the use of new digital tools. The article presents the results of a study of the influence of the use of an interactive panel (IP) at school on the functional state of the body (FSB) of 85 students of the 3rd and 5th grades in order to justify the safe duration for their health of the use of this electronic learning tool in the classroom. To achieve this goal, a complex of hygienic, physiological, sociological, statistical research methods was used. The evaluation of the indicators of mental performance (MP), which is an integral indicator of the functional state of the body of children, indicators of the critical frequency of the fusion of light flashes (CFLF), the psycho-emotional state of students. The time of using the IP in the lesson was tracked by the method of time-lapse observations of educational activities. A medical and sociological study was carried out related to the assessment of the well-being of 130 schoolchildren in the conditions of the use of IP in the classroom. The data obtained made it possible to establish the time of using the interactive panel in the lesson, over which the majority of schoolchildren had unfavorable indicators of mental and visual performance, an uncomfortable emotional state. It is shown that the unregulated use of IP caused the appearance of complaints in students about the deterioration of well-being, including eye pain, headache, blurring of the image, a feeling of flashing before the eyes, etc. The implementation of reasonable hygienic regulations for the use of an interactive panel during the lesson will contribute to the prevention of severe fatigue in the learning process and the occurrence of school-related diseases.
