Currently, knowledge era is not only concern on books but also technology use as the product to enhance the intellectual capability. This technology development can support the process of teaching and learning English in the classroom activities and language laboratory. Computer and audio visual is the essential media to assist a lecturer, besides books or hand out distributed to the students which also supported the method of teaching according to their needs. In this research, we have observed and analyzed 94 students from the Faculty of Animal Science in two different classes, 46 students in class A and 48 students in class B, year 2014/2015 by using Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) system for about one semester. Basically, collaborative materials were given on the scope of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking related to animals and their habits by using videos displayed that combined with ONIC DL-300 plus program provided at the English laboratory, Faculty of Animal Science, Udayana University as the supporting element in teaching and learning English. The progress of learning English can be observed and analyzed from their result of evaluation in the classroom and language laboratory. In this case, the result of achievement evaluated from their final scores of soft skill including assignments and participation, practicum, mid test and also final test. It showed that 100% students passed the final range scoring in class A and 96% students passed in class B.
This study focused on the classification types and identifying the function of derivational suffixes. The data were taken from a novel entitled Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. The collected data were analysed by using documentation method and qualitatively analyzed. The analysis was based on the theory of morphological study, particularly suffixes that is proposed by Plag (2002:109). Moreover, Merriam Webster dictionary is used in this study to analyse the word class of suffixes. The findings showed that there are four types of suffixes, such as: nominal suffixes, verbal suffixes, adjectival suffixes, adverbial suffixes. The function of the suffix can be divided into two, which is to class maintaining suffixes and class changing suffixes.
Dalam pembelajaran bahasa asing atau bahasa kedua seringkali dijumpai kesulitan yang dilakukan oleh pembelajar. Kesulitan tersebut antara lain disebabkan oleh adanya perbedaan antara bahasa asing yang dipelajari (L2) dengan bahasa ibu pembelajar (L1). Terdapat kesalahan pembelajar yang dipengaruhi oleh L1. Kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut bisa terjadi pada bidang fonologi, kosa kata, dan tata bahasa (Breadsmore, 1982). Perbedaan ini menyebabkan kesalahan-kesalahan dalam penggunaan L2 oleh pembelajar. Hal ini menunjukkan pengaruh dari L1 terhadap pemerolehan L2 (Ellis in Bhela, 1999). Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisa pengaruh bahasa ibu terhadap bahasa Inggris mahasiswa program studi Sastra Inggris, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Universitas Udayana, bahasa Bali dianggap sebagai bahasa Ibu mahasiswa. Kedua bahasa akan dibandingkan untuk menganalisa perbedaan dan persamaan diantara keduanya. Responden dalam penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester dua Program Studi Sastra Inggris yang akan dianalisa kemampuan menulisnya dalam Bahasa Inggris. Tulisan mahasiswa kemudian akan dianalisa berdasarkan kesalahan yang ditemukan, khususnya dalam hal morfologi dan sintaksis. Selanjutnya, kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut dianalisa berdasarkan perbedaan antara L1 dan L2 yang menyebabkan terjadinya kesalahan.
This undergraduate thesis entitled “Positive Politeness Strategies in James Corden’s Interview on Recode Decode Talk-show” is interesting to be discussed as an object analysis due to the application of positive politeness strategies used in a communication. The study aims to analyze the types of positive politeness strategies used in James Corden’s Interview on Recode Decode Talk-show and to identify the language function of the applications of those positive politeness strategies. The data were taken from the transcript of the conversation in the talk-show. The statements which were used as the data source were the statements of the conversation which were applied the positive politeness strategy. The data that have been collected were classified according to the theory of Brown and Levinson (1978) about politeness strategy to analyze the positive politeness strategies in the conversation of the talk-show’s transcripts. Furthermore, the language functions proposed by Tillit and Bruder (1985) is also used to identify the functions of the choice of those positive politeness strategies. Based on the theory mentioned above, there were seven strategies of positive politeness strategies found in this talk-show, those are: Notice, attend to H (his interest, wants, needs, goods), Exaggerate (interest, approval, sympathy with H), Seek agreement, Avoid disagreement, Joke, Include both S and H in the activity, and Give (or ask for) reasons.
This study entitled Women’s Languange in the movie script of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. This study is aimed at identifying the language features applied by women and finding out the functions of the language in the movie script.The theories applied in this study were the theory of women’s language proposed by lakoff (1975). Lakoff states that women’s speech was characterized by language features such as: the use hedges and fillers, tag question, rising or question intonation, empty adjective, precise color, intensifier, hypercorrect grammar, super polite form, the avoidance strong swear word, and emphatic stress. This study used the movie script of The Perks of Being a Wallfloweras the data source. The movie script was choosen as the data in this study because it contained women’s language. The collected data were selected and put into categories of women’s language features and their functions which were descriptively analyzed based on the theory applied.The finding of analysis shows that the women’s language features found in this movie script include the use lexical hedges, tag question, rising or question intonation, empty adjective, intensifier, hypercorrect grammar, super polite form, and the avoidance strong swear word. Morever, the findings also show that the function of the women’s language features show the speaker’s strengthened assertion, the speaker’s admiration for something, and to emphasize the speaker’s judgment of something.
