Intensive electrogoniometry provided a detailed recovery pattern for each of these patients. The data were surprisingly consistent over time, showing that it is feasible to use a time-series approach to investigate subacute recovery. Changes associated with additional physiotherapy were observed on some measures, demonstrating the potential of this approach for exploratory evaluation of interventions.
This article details the development of the Rehabilitation for Active Independent Living (RAIL) team at Cedars Medical Rehabilitation Unit. An evidence-based approach of education and exercise for the treatment of chronic low back pain was adopted. The RAIL team also investigated whether the needs of patients were being fulfiled using patient satisfaction surveys.
To identify all the procedures involved in rehabilitating a stroke patient, the staff on a stroke unit developed and audited a care pathway as a framework for the management of the care of patients on their unit. The objectives were to ensure equity of service and to improve multidisciplinary communication and discharge planning for all patients.
