This research was aimed to investigate the implementation of discussion task model toward the EFL learners' oral proficiency achievement (OPA) and critical thinking achievement (CTA). Non-equivalent, pre-test, post-test control group design of comparison group design has been employed in this research. Oral proficiency rubric, critical thinking rubric, and a set of the questionnaire were used to assess the EFL learners' OPA and CTA. The research findings showed that (1) the OPA and CTA levels in the experimental group were in the good category in which it was much better than that in the control group. (2) Statistically, the discussion task model gave a significant improvement and a significant mean difference between the EFL learners' oral proficiency and critical thinking achievements after being taught by using discussion task model and those who were not. (3) There was a significant contribution to the aspect of oral proficiency and aspect of critical thinking toward the total of oral proficiency and total of critical thinking achievements where the highest contribution in the aspect of OPA and CTA was fluency and context. (4) The EFL learners gave positive perception of the discussion task model instruction in EFL classroom. In concluding, using discussion task model in EFL classroom significantly improved the EFL learners' oral proficiency and critical thinking achievements..
Kegiatan pelatihan branding di IREMA Baiturrahman merupakan respon dari pihak terkait. Di tengah kondisi pandemi ini, pemerintah Indonesia terus menggalakkan industri kreatif. Akibat pandemi, masyarakat Indonesia lebih banyak menghabiskan waktu online karena masyarakat masih bisa menjalankan aktivitas kesehariannya, mulai dari bekerja, belajar, hingga menikmati hiburan online. Universitas Indo Global Mandiri Palembang, berkomitmen untuk selalu berusaha melakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat secara berkesinambungan sebagai bentuk kepedulian civitas akademika untuk meningkatkan kualitas hidup masyarakat. Oleh karena itu, Tim Pengabdian Masyarakat Universitas Indo Global Mandiri Palembang bermaksud menjalin kerjasama dengan IREMA Baiturrahman dengan skema pelayanan internal yaitu: 1) Memberikan wawasan Branding dan cara membuatnya, 2) Memberikan keterampilan branding kepada peserta pelatihan, 3) Meningkatkan keterampilan bagi peserta yang sudah memiliki landasan Seni Rupa, dan 4) Memberikan motivasi dan tips bagi peserta untuk menjadi individu yang mandiri dan mampu menghasilkan Brand secara berkala. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pelatihan Branding ini adalah Metode Sosialisasi dan Ceramah, Metode Demonstrasi & Bimbingan & Metode Partisipatif. Kegiatan pelatihan branding di IREMA,para pesertadapat membuat Merk dan sebagian dapat membuat maskot dengan tingkat kemampuan yang berbeda-beda. Indo Global Mandiri University Palembang, committed to always trying to do community service continuously as a form of concern for academics to improve the quality of life of the community. Therefore The Indo Global Mandiri University Community Service Team, Palembang, intends to establish partnership with IREMA Baiturrahman with an internal service scheme, namely 1) Giving insight into Branding and how to make it. 2) Give branding skills to the trainees. 3) Improve skills for participants who already have foundation in Fine Arts. 4) Provide motivation and tips for participants to become individuals independent and able to produce Brands on a regular basis. The methods used in this Branding training activity are the Socialization and Lecture Method, the Demonstration Method & Guidance & Participatory Methods. Kegiatan Pengabdian Masyarakat ini berjudul “Pelatihan Pembuatan SIRUCI (Sirup Jeruk Kunci) Sebagai Upaya Menumbuhkan Jiwa Social Enterpreneurship Selama Covid-19 Pada Komunitas Ikatan Remaja Masjid Baiturrahman Kebun Bunga, Kota Palembang, Sumatera Selatanâ€. Latar belakang dari kegiatan ini, adalah untuk mensupport kalangan remaja yang tergabung dalam Ikatan Remaja Masjid Baiturrahman Kebun Bunga (IRMA Baiturrahman) sebagai tim mitra dalam menumbuhkan produktifitas jiwa kewirausahaan sosial dengan memanfaatkan peluang dan kesempatan selama situasi pandemic Covid-19 untuk membuat Sirup Jeruk Kunci yang diberi label “SIRUCI†sebagai minuman Kesehatan yang memperkuat imunitas. Tujuan dan manfaat dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini, adalah : 1). Memberikan pelatihan berupa pengetahuan yang menunjang kemampuan tim mitra, IRMA Baiturrahman dalam mengolah Jeruk Kunci menjadi produk minuman sehat. 2) Menumbuhkan jiwa wira usaha remaja selama pandemi Covid-19 dengan sikap solutif dan produktif dalam memanfaatkan bahan baku lokal, sebagai usaha untuk keluar dari permasalahan. Metode yang dilakukan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini meliputi tiga tahapan,yaitu : 1). Tahap Observasi, yaitu tahapan pengumpulan data meliputi kondisi wilayah, kondisi ekonomi dan kondisi sosial dari tim mitra yang akan terlibat dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini. 2).Tahap Sosialisasi, yaitu pemberian modul materi pelatihan oleh tim pelaksana dan yang dibantu oleh beberapa mahasiswa UIGM mengenai tata cara proses pembuatan sirup Jeruk Kunci dan tata cara pengemasan produk, Pada metode ini, tim pelaksana menggunakan metode Small Discussion Group[ dan ceramah. 3). Tahap Pelatihan, yaitu uji coba pembuatan dan pengolahan Jeruk Kunci menjadi Sirup Jeruk Kunci yang secara langsung oleh tim mitra yang dipandu oleh tim pelaksana dan narasumber.Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini, tim mitra telah berhasil membuat produk sirup Jeruk Kunci dan mengemasnya dalam kemasan botol plastic ukuran 80 ml, serta memberi nama produk dengan label “SIRUCIâ€. Selain itu juga kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini, telah dipublikasikan pada Media Online Sumsel Terkini dengan judul “IRMA Baiturrahman Kebun Bunga Dilatih Branding & Bikin Produk SIRUCI†yang terbit pada tanggal 21 Maret 2022.Kata kunci : Social Enterpreneurship, Youth Development and Empowerment , Pelatihan  Siruci, Ikatan Remaja Masjid
Reading certainly has many purposes, one of which was by reading people can find out the information, increase knowledge and to expand horizons. Thus the writer tried to explore the use of mind mapping technique to know the significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension achievement in recount text after being taught with mind mapping technique and to know the significant mean difference in students reading comprehension between students who were taught by using mind mapping technique and those who were not. The research design in this study is a quasi-experimental design which the population of this study were students from two classes of eighth-grade of SMPN 38 Palembang which consisted of 32 students of each class. Data collection techniques used in this study were pre-test and post-test. Data were analyzed using t-test (paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test). The outcome of t-obtained in experimental group was higher than t-table (17.201>0.2913). Also, the results of each aspect in experimental group showed that there was improvement. Beside, there was also significant mean difference between students who were taught by using mind mapping technique and those who were not.The findings revealed that teaching reading by using mind mapping technique was effective toward students’ reading comprehension achievement in recount text at the eighth-grade students of SMPN 38 Palembang in the academic year of 2021/2022.
This research aimed at finding out the types of error based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy (Dulay, Burt, and Krashen, 1982) that found at ELT student’s speaking and analyzing some factors influencing their errors. The subject of this research was the sixth semester students of English Education from Indo Global Mandiri University who already taken speaking 3 and structure 4 courses. Qualitative study was used as a method to obtain the data. The data was taken from final exam video of speaking 3 course. The researcher analyzed the data following the Error Analysis (EA) procedures which involves transcribing, coding, classifying error, also explaining the errors and their factors. The result shows that the most dominant error were omission (55,50%), followed by addition (22,49%), misformation (18,66%), and misordering (3,35%). The current research investigated the factor of errors based on their source were intralingual and interlingual interference. Meanwhile, intralingual was considered as the major cause of the students’ errors. In conclution, the students still have a problem in terms of grammatical aspect of their speaking. It is suggested that the students should pay more attention to the grammatical aspect and improve their speaking skills.
