Pengumpulan data melalui kuesioner daring terbuka. Metode analisis menggunakan analisis isi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis ditemukan tiga makna kesakralan gereja, yaitu makna arsitektural, makna peribadatan, dan makna lingkungan.
As a form of urban development, transit-oriented development (TOD) maximizes the amount of residential, business, and leisure space within walking distance of public transport facilities. TOD places more emphasis on design that increases interest in walking, by providing a scale that is appropriate for pedestrians. The Bandung City Government for the period of 2013-2018 has applied TOD in the city of Bandung by building various kinds of public facilities, also restoration and construction of infrastructure to improve the walkability aspect of Bandung. The developments that took place in Bandung then increased its livability, among others through the emergence of various types of thematic parks and various pedestrian infrastructures. The scope of this paper is to critically discuss how TOD was implemented in Bandung mainly through the observation on revitalized pedestrian pathways, while the author’s views on TOD which focused on pedestrian pathways is also formulated. Based on analysis carried out, it was found how TOD, specifically the revitalization of pedestrian pathways, was implemented partially with an emphasis on aesthetic aspects. Furthermore, this study described how Bandung has the potential to exploit pathways within kampung kota in heed of context-based TOD.
Contemporary architects highlight past ideas and present new manifestos often perceived as utopian. Bjarke Ingels introduced hedonistic sustainability in response to the demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable living through different perspectives. This paper comprehensively explains the concept of hedonistic sustainability through the designs of Bjarke Ingels, a contemporary architect. Literature from various sources is examined to describe Bjarke Ingels' idea. Hedonistic sustainability combines sustainable ideas, fun, and community. Bjarke Ingels's architectural design is applied through simulation and an ironic approach. Its representation facilitates the exploration of the design objects planned concretely. The idea of playful and communality was raised through the design that accommodates various user activities. Bjarke Ingels's idea is expected to contribute to the knowledge and contemporary architecture design process in Indonesia. © 2020 Nita Dwi Estika, Yudhistira Kusuma, Dewi Retno Prameswari, Iwan Sudradjat
Whether granaries in traditional communities have survived or being neglected due to modern progress has been widely discussed. However, the discussion remains fragmented and isolated solely on the granary itself, without considering the possibility of its more comprehensive relations. This paper aims to delve into the granary roles in Karampuang, a traditional village in South Sulawesi, to understand how the granary (in the local term 'rekeang') functions and sustains while facing modernization. The inquiry focuses on the interactions between rekeang and farming products, which further results in an understanding of interrelationships between rekeang and its surroundings: 1) domestic spaces, 2) family house units, and 3) with other rekeangs. Each relationship reveals that rekeang has a vital role, besides storing up farming products, it also serves as the key to sustaining the community, especially in cultural and ecological contexts. In the end, the paper proposes a critical insight of 'granary as a network,' which might provide an alternative approach to achieve sustainable development in traditional environments.
In Indonesia, tropical climates force architects to elaborate their residential buildings’ design, especially those that need thermal comfort. As one of the thermal comfort strategies for indoor building, secondary skin technology is analyzed to examine various energy savings advantages. The secondary skin then becomes part of the building’s facade, which should blend into the architectural design itself and not become a separate component, unexplained or encoded, thus degrading the building’s architectural quality. Unfortunately, the study related to secondary skin building mostly only discusses the technical aspects. Therefore, it is necessary to study further the characteristics of the secondary skin in its context as a building facade. This paper will examine the secondary skin technology application in contemporary houses designed by several Andra Matin, Budi Pradono, Yu Sing, and Andy Rahman. This study shows that incorporating the secondary skin was quite varied, and they demonstrate a consistent local character display, advanced technology, and reflecting contextual issues. Each architect has its uniqueness in the design approach in using and exploring materials based on the design issues.
