Caract eristiques et d eterminants du chômage des jeunes au Cameroun: le rôle pr epond erant du diplôme et du sexe Issofou Njifen à R esum e: Paradoxalement, le diplôme ne pr eserve pas les jeunes du chômage qui touche plus les femmes que les hommes sur le march e du travail au Cameroun. A la lumi ere de ce fait stylis e, l'objectif de cet article est d'analyser les d eterminants du chômage des jeunes. En faisant bon usage des micro-donn ees de la deuxi eme enquête sur l'emploi et le secteur informel, cette etude va au-del a de l'analyse logistique simple en adoptant des techniques de d ecomposition de Blinder et Oaxaca pour analyser les d eterminants de l' ecart de chômage selon le genre et le diplôme. Les r esultats r ev elent notamment le rôle d eterminant du niveau d'instruction, du sexe f eminin et du milieu de r esidence dans l'aggravation du chômage des jeunes au Cameroun.Toutefois, l'analyse infirme l'hypoth ese de discrimination du genre a l'embauche quand les diff erences de productivit e entre les diplôm es et les non diplôm es, les avantages li es au diplôme ainsi que les d esavantages associ es au non diplôme expliquent les disparit es de chômage entre ces deux derniers groupes. Ces principaux r esultats d ebouchent sur quelques recommandations de politiques en faveur de la promotion de l'emploi des jeunes.Abstract: In Cameroon, the stylized facts on unemployment reveal a paradox. The schooling level does not preserve youth from unemployment that affects more women than men on the labor market. Thus, the objective of this article is to analyze determinants of youth unemployment. To using a micro-data from the second survey on employment and informal sector, this study goes beyond the simple logistic analysis by adopting Blinder and Oaxaca's decomposition method to analyze the gender gap and the diploma gap in the likelihood of youth unemployment. The results show in particular the crucial role of education, female and residential environment in explaining youth unemployment in Cameroon. However, the analysis invalidates the hiring discrimination hypothesis of gender when productivity differences between graduates and non-graduates, advantages tied to the degree and disadvantages associated with non-degree explain unemployment disparities between these two groups. These key findings lead to some policy recommendations for promoting youth employment in this context.
