Internet gaming is the most entertaining activity of current generation, especially of the young adolescents. Gaming provides, a sense of accomplishment through a virtual reality platform and finally, intense degree of fun. Anyhow Spending too much time and avoiding all necessary activities for gaming leads to Internet gaming addiction. Due to the negative consequences in the behavioral and cognitive components and the alteration in reward and anti-reward system it is considered as a disorder in DSM 5 and ICD 11. Symptoms include anxiety, depression, preoccupied thoughts, irritability, playing games to feel better, insomnia, feeling of emptiness, inability to control the gaming, restlessness, fantasies and dreams about the game. In this review, the concept of gaming disorder in Ayurveda is concentrated in the light of Manovikaras/ Manasika Bhava, Prajnaparadha and Asathmya Indriyartha Samyoga. Management approaches are discussed in preventive and curative aspects. Management can also be done by assessing the dosha predominance and severity in each stage.
Bipolar Disorder (BD) is one of the world’s ten most disabling conditions taking away years of healthy functioning from individuals who have the illness. BD is a long-term, progressive psychiatric condition characterized by mood swings, including manic and depressive episodes. The prevalence rate is approximately 1% across all populations. Most of the complete aetiology or pathogenesis of BD is unknown. As per Ayurveda, Bipolar Disorder shows symptoms as mentioned in Unmada. In Unmada, there is considerable impairment in Ashtavibrama such as Manas, Buddhi, Samjnajnana, Smrti, Bhakti, Shila, Ceshta, as well as Acara. The present article deals with a diagnosed case of BD with psychotic features as per DSM 5 criteria, approached for an Ayurvedic management. A 20-year-old male presented in the hospital OPD with increased worries especially during evening hours, helplessness regarding his future, increased irritability, and sadness. On assessing Patient was an Avara Satwa. Management was planned with integrative approach comprising of Yukti vypasharaya and Satwawajaya. Internally he was given medicines to manage his depression and anxiety. He was advised with procedures namely Takrapana followed by Sodhananga snehapana, Sarvanga abhyanga and Bashpa sweda. Thereafter Virecana, and Yoga Vasti was given. During this time, he was also subjected to internal meditation and counselling techniques as well. The patient responded satisfactorily to the treatment and his symptoms improved significantly. There was marked reduction in his fear and pessimistic attitude. As an outcome, the care of BD using an integrative Ayurvedic approach proved effective.
The prevalence rate of generalized anxiety disorder is increasing constantly in the modern era. In Ayurveda, the symptoms of this disease show a resemblance with the condition called Cittodvega (excited state of mind), which is one among the Manovikara in Ayurveda caused by dysfunction of increased Vata and Pitta dosha. The present study was conducted as a clinical trial to study the effect of Smriti meditation on ten diagnosed participants of generalized anxiety disorder within the age group of 18–60 years selected from the Manassanthi outpatient department of VPSV Ayurveda college, Kottakkal. 3-5 sessions of smriti meditation for 1-2 hours were done for all the participants within 15 days, and the follow-up assessment was done 1 week after the last meditation session. The Smriti meditation technique is an interactive guided psychotherapeutic meditation technique derived from the descriptions of Satvavavjaya chikitsa mentioned in Caraka Samhita. Assessment scores of different intervals were statistically analysed using repeated measures analysis of variance. Based on the results, it was found that smriti Meditation has a statistically significant effect in reducing the symptoms of all the domains of the Hamilton anxiety rating scale and also improves the quality of life of participants within a short period.

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a common anxiety disorder that comprises continuous and long-lasting worrying, tension, which making normal life problematic and relaxation impossible The prevalence rate of GAD disorder is increasing constantly in modern era. Though many different types of modern medications used currently to treat anxiety disorders provide temporary relief, they come with various side effects, Drug dependence and safety concerns. In Ayurveda the symptoms of this disease show resemblance with the condition. Cittodvega (excited state of mind) which is one among the Manovikara in Ayurveda caused by dysfunction of increased Vata and Pitta dosha. The present study was conducted as an Uncontrolled clinical trial to study the Efficacy of Drakshadi Phantam in 38 diagnosed participants of Generalized Anxiety Disorder with the age group 20–50 were administered with 100ml of Drakshadi Phantam twice daily before food continuously for a period of 45 days. Five assessments were done staring from 0th day of treatment to 60 the day of the study with a gap of 15 days, using Hamilton anxiety rating scale and Rajas Tams rating scale. The assessment scores of different intervals were statistically analysed using RM ANOVA. Effect of the therapy were statistically analysed in each domain of HAM – A rating scale in different intervals of the study. The therapy was found statistically significant in reducing the symptoms of GAD in all the 14 domains of the HAM- A Rating scale. Based on results it has been concluded that Drakshadi Phantam has statistically significant effect in reducing the symptoms of all the 14 domains of Hamilton anxiety rating scale and reducing the Rajasika and Tamasika qualities of the study participants.
