National Park is an important component in the protected area system, and plays a key role in the tourism industry, precisely through ecotourism. Since its inception, the national park concept has been defined in different ways, but it is often connected with the idea of conservation and preservation of the nature and its ecosystems. Having the challenges in the determination of the value (price) of the non-market goods and services, non-market valuation techniques such as Contingent Valuation Method and Choice Experiment have been developed to cater the issues in valuing environmental goods. This study seeks to study on the association of ecotourism as a segment of tourism in Malaysia. However, the scope of this study is limited to the valuation of ecotourism of NPs in Malaysia, particularly in Kubah National Park, Sarawak. Data were obtained using questionnaires from face-to face interviews. A sample of 618 respondents, comprising of visitors and non-visitors (Kuching residents) were involved in the study. Keywords: Willingness to Pay; Kubah National Park; Ecotourism; Contingent Valuation Method; Entrance Fees.
The purpose of this study is to estimate Kuching residents' (non-visitors) willingness to pay (WTP) for the conservation of Kubah National Park, Sarawak. In order to answer the research objectives in this study, Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) was put into application as the elicitation method and there were 160 respondents who involved in this data collection, where the random sampling method was executed. A dichotomous choice CVM (DC-CVM) was adopted and logit models were used to analyze the CVM analysis. The empirical results indicated that as the price increases, the probability in saying 'Yes' decreases. The minimum estimated mean for the WTP is an increment of 4.38% (RM0.44) while the maximum estimated mean is an increment of 200.24% (RM20.24). In addition, work status, education level attainment and income show positive and significant results.
This study examines parents' satisfaction towards the service quality of private kindergarten in Kuching. Five dimensions in SERVQUAL are applied as the indicators that influence parents' satisfaction. In total 400 questionnaires were distributed to the respondents. Data collected is analyzed by employing descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, correlation and multiple linear regressions. In this research, the Pearson Correlation shows the five SERVQUAL dimensions have a positive and relationship on parents' satisfaction. In order to identify the best predictor that contributes to parents' satisfaction, the multiple linear regressions are used to predict the impact on the five SERVQUAL dimensions on parents' satisfaction. In a nutshell, responsiveness is the most significant and dominant dimension that influences parents' satisfaction. The results suggest the private kindergarten operators emphasize more on ensuring continuous communication with parents. Teachers play an important role as they should regularly tell and ask parents in order to understand each child's situation. Teachers are suggested to promptly respond to children's needs and make efforts to address them.
This paper investigates the relationship between information sharing linkages (i.e. customer linkage, supplier linkage and internal linkage) and micro and small business performance in Sarawak, Malaysia. The empirical results reveal that customer linkage and supplier linkage have positively influenced business performance meanwhile internal linkage has negatively influenced business performance. Due to the challenge of obtaining the responses from business owners and managers of medium-sized enterprises, the responses are recorded only from micro and small businesses. This leads us to conclude that the findings can help small and medium enterprises, researchers and academicians to better understand on the importance of information sharing linkages that affect business performance. Additionally, the findings provide evidence on the ability of the enterprises to utilize the information sharing linkage as a resource to improve business performance. Contribution/ Originality: This study is one of very few studies which have investigated information sharing linkages towards business performance in service sector. This study documents the influencing factors of information sharing linkages and recommends ways to improve service-based business performance. 1. INTRODUCTION Small and medium enterprises are flourishing positively around the globe as it provides greater job opportunities compared to large firms (Noor and Siang, 2014). In Malaysia, SMEs contributed 36.6 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2016 as compared to 36.3 percent recorded in 2015 (The Office of Chief Statistician Malaysia Department of Statistic Malaysia, 2017). Practicing information sharing in small and medium enterprises is seen to benefit the organizations. It helps the suppliers to access the data of customers efficiently which help them in refilling production and arrange the schedule of shipment (Devaraj et al., 2007). Besides, it also helps to improve the quality of business performance which simultaneously satisfies the customers (Devaraj et al., 2007). From time to time, it is presumed a lot of information must be conveyed as the business is expanding.
