The main thrust of this study was to examine principals’ resources management and goal attainment in public secondary schools. Three null hypotheses were formulated following the specific purposes of the study. This study was tailored to follow the ex-post facto research design. The population of this study consisted of 681 secondary school administrators (227 principals and 454 vice principals) distributed across 227 public secondary schools situated in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Census technique was adopted in studying the entire population. A self-structured and administered questionnaire titled, “Principals’ Resources Management and Goal Attainment Questionnaire (PRMEAQ)” was used as data collection instrument. The null hypotheses of the study were all tested at. 05 level of significance using the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Analysis. Findings of the study indicated that financial management, management of school libraries and school records management all have a partial significant relationship with goal attainment in secondary schools. In line with this finding, relevant policy implications were discussed. It is recommended, among others, that secondary school principals should effectively and prudently utilize available material resources as well as internally generated funds for judicious purposes.
This study researched on security challenges in universities and the implications for safe school environment. Three hundred and twenty five (325) samples, constituting 50% of a population of 650 security personnel in two universities in the study area participated in the study. The study was based on three research questions and one hypothesis. Data for the study was gathered through a 42-item questionnaire. The questionnaire was validated and tested for reliability using Cronbach Alpha with a reliability index of 0.87. Data collected were analyzed using means, standard deviation and independent t-test. Results indicated that cult-related activities, kidnapping, drug abuse/offences, illegal possession of fire arms by students, students’ restiveness/demonstrations, students’ union election crisis, room break-in, stealing and pilfering and sexual assaults were the most prevalent security challenges. Findings also showed that inadequate security personnel, insufficient patrol vehicles, poor lighting of university environments, non-availability of modern security facilities, poor funding of security departments, porous campus environments, lack of security-awareness education, non-availability of electronic gadgets among others were the factors militating against effective security checks in universities. Implications for safe school environment were discussed, and one of the recommendations was that the security unit should be well funded and equipped with modern technology by the university management for a better performance.
Introduction: Lack of accountability demands in university business administration may be as a result of less attention given to genuine learning approach in university education. This study was undertaken to assess the causal effects of task-based approach to learning risk management on effective business decision making and outcome appraisal of universities in Nigeria. Method: The study was a true experimental design study aimed at Knowledge and Learning Management (KALM) in universities for enforcing business accountability. The population included 250 undergraduate final year students of educational management in public universities in Cross River State, Nigeria for 2017/2018 session. The sample consisted of 120 subjects purposely selected. A researcher constructed instrument was validated and had a reliability coefficient of 0.88 obtained using cronbach’s alpha method. Three research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Data was analysed using mean, percentage and independent t-test analysis. Results: The results showed that task-based approach produced improvement in knowledge after learning risk management. Male and female students learned risk management in the same way for university business decision making and outcome evaluation. Discussion and conclusion: Based on the result above, task-based approach to learning risk management guaranteed development of knowledge and cognitive skills of university students in university business opportunities. The implication of this finding was that students’ learning motivation and task sharing towards knowledge retention in university business outcome could not have been achieved unless something urgent was done to address the issue in a timely manner. Therefore, university management should be able to pay particular attention to genuine learning of task processes and task strategies in risk management. More so, university teachers should be aware of the benefits of integrating learning stages of pre-task, task cycle and post task in enhancing quality decision making choices in university business offers.
The study aimed at finding out the relationship between quality secondary school administration and economic development of Cross River State. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 232 Principals from the 232 public secondary schools in the three Educational Zones in Cross River State. The 232 principals were purposively used as sample for the study. Three null hypotheses were formulated and tested in the study. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire titled "Quality Secondary school Administration and Economic Development Questionnaire QSSAEDQ). The instrument was subjected to face validity and reliability test using Test-Retest method and was found reliable at 0.75 r_value. Pearson Product Moment correlation Statistics (r) was used for data analysis at 0.05 level of significance. Result obtained revealed that there is a significant relationship between Facilities administration, student personnel administration, knowledge management and economic development in Nigeria. Based on this result, it was recommended that school heads should ensure effective administration of school facilities, student personnel, as well as efficient knowledge management, to attain secondary Education goals, which would engender economic development of the state.
