The purpose of the study was to measure the impact of psychological hardiness on the intolerance of uncertainty (IOU) among university students during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic. A cross‐sectional correlational research design was used in the study, where participants were selected by convenience sampling. The data was collected from 1217 undergraduate students from a university in Turkey through web‐based questionnaires. The Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale assessed data, including intolerance of uncertainty. In addition, the Personal Views Survey III‐R was used to measure students' psychological hardiness. The results indicated that Turkish undergraduate students overall had high IOU and above‐average psychological hardiness. Psychological hardiness was negatively correlated with IOU. Students losing a loved one because of COVID‐19 had increased intolerance to uncertainty and lower psychological hardiness. Psychological hardiness was a powerful predictor of IOU. These findings show the need to implement hardiness‐training programs for undergraduate students to increase their tolerance to uncertainty and reduce the effect of grief.
Aim: This study aims to investigate the perceived stress and coping styles of the nurses working in the emergency service during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: The study population consisted of the nurses in the emergency service of the A Hospital, who met the research inclusion criteria between April 15th, 2021, and May 1st, 2021 (N:179). Without any sample selection, 156 nurses who agreed to participate voluntarily in the research were included in the study sample. Research data were collected using the survey program online, taking into account the COVID-19 conditions and the intensity of work in the emergency service. Permissions of the Ministry of Health and approval of the ethics committee (no:B.30.2.ATA.0.01.00/) were obtained before conducting the study. In the study, 'Personal Information Form', 'Perceived Stress Scale', and 'Ways of Coping Questionnaire' were used. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 22 package program. Results: The Perceived Stress Scale scores of the nurses working in the emergency service were found to be above the average (avg. value:26). In addition, of the Ways of Coping Questionnaire sub-scales, the Optimistic Approach, Self-Confident Approach, Seeking Social Support Approach sub-scale scores were found to decrease with the increase in the Perceived Stress Scale scores, whereas the Helpless Approach and Submissive Approach sub-scale scores were found to increase significantly with increasing Perceived Stress Scale scores (p
Objective: While television continues to exist in many homes, it is thought that the situation of children being affected by the frequency of watching television is an important issue that is overlooked. This study was conducted in order to determine the effect of counselling given to parents and teachers depending on the TV watching frequency of children going to pre-school education institutions on their emotional behavioural problems. Methods: The study was conducted as an experimental study with pre-test – post-test control group. Data were collected by using ‘Family Introduction Form’, and ‘Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire’. Data were analysed using SPSS 20.0. Results: The study found significant differences between the pre-test and post-test mean scores of the families and teachers in the experimental group and control group for the total score of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire and the mean scores of all subscales, as well as significant difference between the pre-test and post-test mean scores in the experimental group for intra-group analysis (p< .05). Conclusion: The study found that the counselling training given to parents and teachers lead to a significantly positive change in the mean scores for emotional, behavioural, and peer problems as well as attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders and it also has a significant positive impact on the TV watching duration of children.
Bu araştırmada ilköğretim ve ortaöğretim psikolojik danışmanlık ve rehberlik (PDR) öğretmenlerinin dikkat eksikliği ve hiperaktivite bozukluğu (DEHB) ve özgül öğrenme güçlüğü (ÖÖG) ile ilgili bilgi ve farkındalık düzeylerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmış, öğretmenlerin geçmişte aldıkları DEHB ve ÖÖG eğitimi ile bilgi ve farkındalık düzeyleri arasında bir ilişkinin olup olmadığı sorgulanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışma, Erzurum iline bağlı bir ilçenin okullarında görevli olan PDR öğretmenlerinin DEHB ve ÖÖG hakkındaki bilgi ve farkındalık düzeylerini inceleyen betimsel bir çalışmadır. Araştırmada örneklem seçme yöntemine gidilmemiştir. Araştırmaya gönüllü olarak katılmak isteyen PDR öğretmenleri (n=35) dahil edilerek araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan basılı anketleri doldurmaları istenmiştir. Bulgular: PDR öğretmenlerinin DEHB ve ÖÖG hakkında bilgi ve farkındalık düzeylerinin orta seviyede olduğu saptanmıştır. Geçmişte DEHB ile ilgili eğitimi almış olan öğretmenlerin almamış öğretmenlere göre anketten anlamlı düzeyde daha yüksek puan aldıkları görülmüştür. Sonuç: Çalışmanın sonuçları öğretmenlerin DEHB ve ÖÖG ile ilgili bilgi ve farkındalıklarının artırılmasının faydalı olabileceğini işaret etmektedir. Çalışmanın sonucu Erzurum iline bağlı ilçenin Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü ile paylaşılmıştır. DEHB ve ÖÖG için erken tanı ve müdahalenin önemi göz önünde bulundurulduğunda, Erzurum il merkezine bağlı diğer ilçelerin okullarında görev yapan hem sınıf öğretmenleri hem de PDR öğretmenlerinin DEHB ve ÖÖG konusunda bilgi ve yeterliliklerinin artırılması için eğitimler düzenlenmesi planlanmıştır.
