Drug prevention and education program had been implemented in schools through special Substance Abuse Prevention Program (PPDa). The purpose of this study was to identify self-efficacy, job satisfaction and their relationships among PPDa teachers. This study also measured the differences in self-efficacy and job satisfaction based on gender and experiences in handling PPDa program. The researcher used snowball sampling technique to recruit 150 PPDa teachers in Malaysia. The translation version of 'General Self-efficacy Scale' and Job Descriptive Index (JDI) were used to achieve the research objectives. The findings showed that PPDa teachers are at the moderate level of self-efficacy and low level of job satisfaction. There was no significant difference in self-efficacy based on gender and experience in handling PPDa program. There was also no significant difference in job satisfaction based on experience in handling PPDa program. However, there was a significant difference in job satisfaction based on gender. The findings also revealed that there was a significant positive relationship between self-efficacy and the level of job satisfaction (rs=.277, p=0.01). The findings revealed that further enhancement could improve teachers’ self-efficacy and job satisfaction to combat substance abuse in school level.
This study assesses the association between career program, support for career development and commitment with career choice. Self-report questionnaires were used to collect data from university staff. The SmartPLS path model analysis was employed to test the research hypotheses and outcomes of this test confirmed that linking career program to support for career development has been an important antecedent of commitment with career choice in the studied organization. Discussion on the findings, implications and conclusion of the study are elaborated.
Generally, the training module for disaster workers has been built based on technical skills as to affirm that the disaster workers capable of responding to any situation that occurs. However, in particular situation the psycho-spirituality skill is needed to deal with an unexpected scenario. The importance to understand the value of psycho-spirituality is vital, especially to the trainer of the disaster module. This study has been conducted to the trainers of one of the disaster agencies in Malaysia. The interview has been conducted to six trainers whereby nine structured questions regarding the necessary skills taught to the disaster workers and the needs of psycho-spirituality skills to respond during the disaster. The finding shows that the trainers have a consensus agreement that the technical skills form as prior knowledge for the disaster workers. By having the psycho spiritual content in the training module, they can balance their emotional, internal spiritual and physical well-being while maintaining resilient. Thus, this study suggests that psycho-spiritual content is very much important to be included in the training module for disaster workers as to enhance the training content comprehensively both in technical and spiritual aspects.
Due to the escalating statistical figure of divorce rate amongst Muslim couples in Malaysia, there is a need to enhance the marriage education program to be more effective in overcoming the problems of marriage, as well as to provide the knowledge and skills to the spouse and to prevent the divorce cases. Therefore, this article is aimed to explore the views of experts and couples with marital conflict on the needs of marriage education in Malaysia. This article employed an interview method with ten participants; amongst them are five Consultation Officer from the Islamic Religious Office and five people who are facing marital conflict and seeking advice from the Islamic Religious Office. The data collected between March until June 2016 and were managed and analyzed using thematic analysis approach. The findings of the interviews revealed two main outcomes (i) the views of experts and conflict people about marriage education; (ii) the views of experts and conflict people on the content of marriage education course. The findings highlight that marriage education course is important to provide a platform for knowledge and relationship skills between husband and wife. Various topics need to be included in preparing the module of marriage education, such as financial management, conflict management skills, effective communication skills, listening and express feelings skills.
