The role of women has changed and has even reached critical heights today, especially as far as the working world is concerned. The kind of job they embark upon also influences their way of life. The question is whether the lifestyle that is supposed to be practised by Muslim working women today complies with the Shari'ah requirements stipulated for Muslim women. At the same time, the halal lifestyle concept has been increasingly accepted universally. The halal lifestyle concept focuses more on a way of life that prioritises and practises all that is commanded in Islam. A halal lifestyle is one of the elements in the halal concept and currently, it focuses more on the food, medical, self-treatment and hotel sectors. The aim of this paper was to examine the lifestyle of Muslim working women in the halal context. How can the halal concept be assimilated into women's career-lifestyle? Hence, this paper hoped to highlight the halal lifestyle concept of Muslim working women based on two objectives. The first objective was to identify the halal lifestyle concept among Muslim working women through published academic materials and the second objective was to come up with a halal lifestyle framework for Muslim working women. This working paper adopted the interpretive qualitative analysis using past literature and analysed from an Islamic perspective.
The increase in career seeking women is becoming even more significant following the United Nations recognition of a policy regarding women's involvement in careers and politics. However, there are several implications of women's involvement, especially Muslim women, in careers, such as mental health issues. Mental health issues contribute towards the impoverishment of women and an obstacle for Muslim women to succeed in their careers. This study intended to identity the level and trend of Muslim women's mental health in relation to their careers. A qualitative analysis that involved 34 articles published between 2014 and 2020 found that the main cause of mental health issues among Muslim women is religious discrimination. However, the main finding shows that a strong belief in religion has a positive and significant relationship with the level of Muslim women's well-being and their careers.
The number of career women is increasing. This is in addition to the various policies that are inclined to direct women to a career life. Realistically, contemporary women have to juggle various roles in life. Thus, in line with these developments, numerous aspects should be considered to strike a balance between these roles played by a career woman. This includes physical health, mental alertness and spiritual wellbeing needed when shouldering the responsibility of a career woman. Hence, what are the basis? In Islam, wasatiyyah is a concept of mediocrity in every human. The next question is how is this wasatiyyah concept-based manifests itself in the well-being of a career woman in order to ensure a holistic wellbeing? What are the elements? This paper endeavored to elaborate this issue by outlining two objectives. First, to identify the wasatiyyah concept in a career woman context based on the main texts in Islam and discourses by Muslim intellectuals from various perspectives. Second, to suggest the basis for the measurement of a contemporary career woman's well-being based on the wasatiyyah concept. The research design for this study is a qualitative interpretive design using textual data from both classical sources and contemporary literature. Then, the authors analysed the findings using the qualitative content analysis method to elucidate both, manifest and latent contents, regarding the basis for the well being of a career woman according to Islamic perspectives.
