Digital media is currently a trend in learning mathematics. However, digitalization of the media in primary mathematics education still at an introductory level. This study aims to determine students' mathematical literacy abilities, supported by digital media. The digital media used in this study was Virtual Mathematics Kits (VMK). This study involved 83 primary school students (45 intervention class; 28 non-intervention class) as participant of mathematical literacy training (6 weeks). Students' mathematical literacy evaluated by two section mathematical literacy test. This study revealed that mathematical literacy training led to improve mathematical literacy from both classes. However, mathematical literacy training with VMK aplication have better performance. This study shows that VMK as the digital media have big impact to support students' mathematical literacy abilities.
This article aimed to explore ethnomathematics in the Malind tribe to strengthen the character values of elementary school students. The method used descriptive survey method with data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and literature review. The researchers act as a human instrument. The qualitative data were obtained and then analyzed by paying attention to ethnomathematics material or theme. The results showed: firstly, ethnomathematics in the culture of the Malind tribe was found in activities of daily life such as the manufacture of farming tools, hunting, fishing, musical instruments, noken, ornaments and paintings, traditional ceremonies, life behaviors, and traditional games. Second, the attitude of responsibility, like to work hard, practice religious values, develop creativity, friendship, responsibility, the spirit of cooperation and kinship and tolerance is an integrated national character in the cultural values of the Malind tribe. Ethnomathematics can be integrated into learning mathematics in elementary schools Keywords: Ethnomathematics, Malind Tribe, Education Character
The digital era makes education begin to be contaminated with technology. This study aim to determine the effectiveness of Virtual Mathematics Kits (VMK) viewing by student' mathematical literacy. The VMK was used in extracurricular activities based on mathematical literacy. 83 elementary school students (grade 5) in 4 school participated in this study. There were two intervention classes and two non-intervention classes. All classes were given mathematical literacy activities for 6-weeks period (90-min each week). The VMK used in intervention classes. The activities focus on student' ability to make ideas, reasoning and solve various mathematical problem. The mathematical literacy activities led to improvements in both of two classes. However, the use of VMK make student' mathematical literacy much better. The VMK support student to reason and manipulated mathematical object although students have difficulty to operate VMK. This study showing the use of digital media (VMK) support student' mathematical literacy.
This article was to improve the understanding of elementary school students' geometry concepts through the Realistic Mathematic Education (RME) model that assisted by virtual nets. This research was classroom action research. This research was conducted in two cycles where each cycle had two meetings. The research subjects were the fifth grade students. In this study two cycles were carried out where if the first cycle had not yet reached the specified indicators. It would be improved in the next cycle or the second cycle. Data collection techniques used tests and observations in each cycle. In the second cycle it was felt that the target had been reached, so that the study would end until the second cycle. At the pre-cycle stage obtained a classical percentage of 50%, the first cycle obtained a percentage of 70% and in the second cycle increased by 100%. Thus the researcher concludes that through the RME model assisted by virtual nets can improve the understanding of geometrical concepts of elementary school students.
