The objective was to identify factors of competitiveness and sustainability in livestock systems of The Andean-Amazonian Piedmont. In a sample of 60 farms in the area, a survey aimed at producers was implemented to identify internal and external factors for competitiveness and sustainability. Data envelopment analysis was used to measure technical efficiency and an econometric model to identify the determinants of competitiveness and sustainability. The key factors towards competitiveness were the profitability of the cattle and the forest extension within the farms. The key factors towards sustainability were the reduction of environmental impacts of deforestation to increase carbon storage and the enhancement of ecosystem services. The increase of profitability and the establishment of sustainable systems of livestock production are the rallying points to improve competitiveness and sustainability in livestock of the Amazonian foothills.
The results obtained in this research confirm that currently manufacturing for SMEs by the nature of its operational activities, the handling of Supply Chain Management (SCM), is significant in the performance of this type of organizations. Because of that, the answers of the business man were analyzed with the support of polls through a field work, finding that for them, is essential that the SCM considering its complexity and impact in the supply of material resources, which is significantly influence for the manufacturer SMEs to have a bigger performance. This research, of empiric origin,, and with support of the statistic software EQS where the structural equations have been used, permit conclude that the SCM is essential for the manufacturer SMEs performance. For the investigation the sample of 288 enterprises of the state Aguascalientes has been used, obtained between August and December 0f 2013, which contain from 11 to 250 workers.

The purpose of the following research was to analyze how management skills affect organizational performance and contribute to SMEs' competitive advantage. This study has a quantitative approach by applying questionnaires to a sample of 273 companies in Caquetá, mainly in the commerce, manufacturing, and services sectors. The main results reveal that managerial skills and organizational performance are variables that impact the competitive advantage of SMEs in the department of Caquetá.

Para ello, se elaboró un instrumento de evaluación dirigido a los gerentes y dueños de este tipo de organizaciones, aplicado de manera transversal, a través de un trabajo empírico en el período de agosto a diciembre del 2013. El estudio indica que para la Pyme manufacturera es importante tener una relación cercana con los proveedores, en virtud de que por la naturaleza de los suministros es necesario integrar estrategias que permitan garantizar las entregas a tiempo y para ello es relevante tener una estrecha colaboración y generar acuerdos que finalmente permita un mayor rendimiento en este tipo de organizaciones. AbstractThis research shows the results obtained through the regression technique in order to analyze whether the strategies, partnerships and agreements with suppliers are having a significant impact for greater performance in manufacturing SMEs in the state Aguascalientes, Mexico. To do this, an assessment tool intended for managers and owners of these organizations applied transversely through an empirical study in the period August to December 2013. The study indicates that developed for the manufacturing SME is important to have a close relationship with suppliers by virtue of the nature of the supplies, it is necessary to integrate strategies to ensure on-time deliveries and it is therefore important to have a close collaboration and generate agreements that eventually allows a higher yield in this types of organizations.
