Objective: To identify the knowledge and attitudes of doctors and nurses in tracking, diagnosing, treating, and monitoring dementias and their educational needs in this area. Method: Cross-sectional study, carried out among 195 doctors and 274 nurses working in teams of the Family Health Strategy (FHS) in the city of São Paulo. The instrument used was Health Care for Dementia: the Primary Care perspective. The data were submitted for descriptive statistics. Results: Among physicians, 64.1% reported routinely diagnosing dementia, but only 23.1% in the mild phase; 89.2% mentioned difficulties in identifying cases of the disease; 94.9%, difficulties in the treatment and monitoring of patients, including the needs to support the caregiver (28.2%); 84.6% of doctors and 79.2% of nurses reported difficulties in monitoring severe cases of the disease. Conclusion: Gaps in knowledge were identified regarding the tracking and diagnosis of dementia, patient monitoring, diagnostic information, and support for the caregiver.
O artigo avalia a confiabilidade do instrumento Atenção Sanitária às Demências: a visão da Atenção Básica, nas versões para médicos e enfermeiros. Um estudo correlacional foi conduzido em Unidades Básicas de Saúde da Estratégia Saúde da Família do município de São Paulo. A amostra foi composta por 87 médicos e 132 enfermeiros atuantes nas Unidades selecionadas. A confiabilidade foi avaliada por meio da estabilidade dos itens (teste-reteste). A coleta de dados foi realizada mediante a autoaplicação do instrumento pelos profissionais e a etapa de reteste ocorreu no 14° dia após o teste. Os resultados revelaram que 86,0% dos itens do instrumento possuem estabilidade entre forte e quase perfeita/alta; 13,3%, estabilidade moderada e 0,7%, regular. Tais resultados permitem indicar seu uso para identificar as necessidades educacionais de médicos e enfermeiros da Atenção Básica à Saúde no acompanhamento às demências.Descritores: Reprodutibilidade dos Testes, Atenção Primária à Saúde, Educação Profissional em Saúde Pública, Demência. Reliability of the health care instrument for dementias: the vision of primary careAbstract: The article assesses the reliability of the instrument Health Care for Dementia: the Primary Care perspective, in versions for doctors and nurses. A correlational study was conducted in Basic Health Units of the Family Health Strategy belonging to the municipality of São Paulo, Brazil. The sample consisted of 87 doctors and 132 nurses working in the selected Units. Reliability was assessed by means of item stability (test-retest). Data collection was performed by the self-application of the instrument by professionals and the retesting step occurred on the 14th day after the test. The results revealed that 86.0% of the instrument's items have stability between strong and almost perfect/high; 13.3%, moderate stability and 0.7%, regular.
