Safety leadership, safe behavior, and safety climate, which are important parts of occupational safety culture, are important in terms of preventing occupational accidents and making the working environment ergonomic. In this context, this study aims to examine the mediating effect of the safety climate on the relationship between transformational leadership and safe behavior. Research was carried out with 287 participants working in two manufacturing plants, one from Turkey and one from Romania. The two data sets were consolidated into a single database (both companies being providers of manufacturing products for the same client in the automotive industry) and were analyzed using the Preacher and Hayes plugin in the SPSS 21 package program because of the research interest in investigating safety behavior in the manufacturing field. The results of the analysis showed that the safety climate had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between transformational leadership and safe behavior. In addition, the study results demonstrated that transformational safety leadership has a significant influence on employees’ perceptions of safety climate and plays an important role in occupational safety-related behaviors. Research results were helpful for practitioners (managers in both companies) and researchers in understanding the importance of safety-climate and transformational safety leadership practices in increasing occupational safety-related behaviors.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to determine the effects of the DESI (connectivity, human capital/digital skills, use of internet service by citizens, integration of digital technology and digital public services) on labor market indicators (labor market insecurity, long-term unemployment rate, employment rate, and personal earnings). METHODS: In the study, the 2018 DESI data, the 2018 Better Life Index (job) data and 23 EU countries were analyzed. In the analysis, the SmartPLS 3.0 program was executed with 23 cases and 5000 bootstraps. RESULTS: It was concluded that an increase in the DESI has increased employment rate and personal earnings, which are positive labor market indicators (t: 15,929; 0,849) and has decreased long-term unemployment rate and labor market insecurity, which are negative labor market indicators (t: 3,685; –0,535). CONCLUSIONS: As a result, digitalization in EU countries for the year 2018 has proved that the labor market indicators were improving.
Research on social media news trust and news verification awareness This study aims to design a tool for measuring social media users' levels of social media news trust and news verification awareness, to investigate if there is a significant difference between the trust towards news produced by professional journalists and individuals' news production/shares, and to examine whether social media users check the trueness of social media news before they share them. To that end, a survey was conducted with the participation of 763 university students and following the analysis of the results, a 3-factor structure as "verification", "trust on professional social media shares" and "individual social media shares" was proven to be a valid and reliable scale for university students. Also, it has been observed that the trust of participants towards professional channels is higher than the individual shares and the youth, who use social media to get news have higher levels of news verification awareness.
