We have rationally designed a densely packed 1:1 donor-acceptor (D-A) cocrystal system comprising two isometric distyrylbenzene- and dicyanodistyrylbenzene-based molecules, forming regular one-dimensional mixed stacks. The crystal exhibits strongly red-shifted, bright photoluminescence originating from an intermolecular charge-transfer state. The peculiar electronic situation gives rise to high and ambipolar p-/n-type field-effect mobility up to 6.7 × 10(-3) and 6.7 × 10(-2) cm(2) V(-1) s(-1), respectively, as observed in single-crystalline OFETs prepared via solvent vapor annealing process. The unique combination of favorable electric and optical properties arising from an appropriate design concept of isometric D-A cocrystal has been demonstrated as a promising candidate for next generation (opto-)electronic materials.
Recent studies have demonstrated that blockade of neuronal death in the hippocampus cannot prevent epileptogenesis in various epileptic models. These reports indicate that neurodegeneration alone is insufficient to cause epilepsy, and that the role of astrocytes in epileptogenesis should be reconsidered. Therefore, the present study was designed to elucidate whether altered morphological organization or the functionalities of astrocytes induced by status epilepticus (SE) is responsible for epileptogenesis. Glial responses (reactive microgliosis followed by astroglial death) in the dentate gyrus induced by pilocarpine-induced SE were found to precede neuronal damage and these alterations were closely related to abnormal neurotransmission related to altered vesicular glutamate and GABA transporter expressions, and mossy fiber sprouting in the dentate gyrus. In addition, newly generated astrocytes showed down-regulated expressions of glutamine synthase, glutamate dehydrogenase, and glial GABA transporter. Taken together, our findings suggest that glial responses after SE may contribute to epileptogenesis and the acquisition of the properties of the epileptic hippocampus. Thus, we believe that it is worth considering new therapeutic approaches to epileptogenesis involving targeting the inactivation of microglia and protecting against astroglial loss.
An efficient bulk heterojunction all‐small‐molecule organic solar cell composed of a high‐performance small‐molecule donor and a self‐assembling nonfullerene acceptor is demonstrated. Favorable nanoscale phase separation and enhanced charge carrier generation with transport in this donor–acceptor system assures a maximum power conversion efficiency of 5.4%.
A well-organized donor-acceptor crystalline structure is examined for high -performance nonfullerene solar cells. By thermal annealing, nanoscale structures of both donor and acceptor domains are successfully modulated, followed by -significant changes in the resulting -photovoltaic characteristics. When annealed at 90 °C, a maximum power conversion efficiency of 7.64% with a -remarkable open-circuit voltage of 1.03 V is obtained.
