Th e authors present the results of research carried out in the 2017/2018 academic year among foreign languages teachers at eight higher education institutions. Th e aim of the study was to fi nd out the connection between the participation activity rate of foreign languages teachers in specially focused network pedagogical communities and the level of professional self-realization through their self-effi cacy. We used methods of mathematical statistics, computer data processing and discursive refl extion for drawing logical conclusions from experimental data. 267 foreign languages teachers from Ukrainian universities participated in the fi rst stage of research. During the second stage, 108 selected foreign languages teachers completed a questionnaire for collecting data and evaluating the level of their self-effi cacy. Results indicate a signifi cant diff erence in the professional self-realization levels among the members and non-members of specially focused network communities and confi rm the suggested hypothesis.
The paper is aimed at investigating adaptation peculiarities of the first-year students to university life. Among 105 first-year students selected for taking part in research 57 were internal migrants who had to change their place of residence and move to a student residential complex and 48 were original city residents who continued living at home. The research took place in 2018/2019 academic year at two Ukrainian universities. To promote research and collect data several diagnostic tools were used. To understand the leading concepts of research the methods of scientific literature analysis were applied. To process and interpret the obtained results the authors used the methods of mathematical statistics. The obtained results showed that stress resistance was the main source of successful adaptation of the first-year students to university life. Being self-resistant studentsinternal migrants seemed to know better how to deal with problems concerning their study and to be more open to interactions with their peers, family members and university teachers. At the same time facing unusual problems studentsoriginal city residents were not able to cope with them in a proper way and were more vulnerable to different stressors concerning university and personal life. The conducted research made it possible to define the difference between stress resistance of students-internal migrants and students-original city residents and to prove the correlation between adaptation and stress level.
The authors present the results of the research carried out in the 2016/2018 academic years among 338 students earning BA in the English language and literature regarded in our study as future philologists. Experimental work was conducted at four higher educational institutions in Ukraine. The aim of the study was to find out the influence of open educational resources for learning English on the development of future philologists’ instrumental values. We used methods of mathematical statistics, computer data processing and a descriptive method for interpreting experimental data. The authors theoretically substantiate and practically prove the efficiency of the use of open educational resources for learning English which influence the development of future philologists’ instrumental values necessary for adequate evaluating own activity and meeting various real-life and professional challenges. These open educational resources are The Internet Encyclopedia of Ukraine, Encyclopedia Britannica, The Cambridge History of English and American Literature, Learn English. The results obtained in the experimental and control groups are compared and conclusions on the efficiency of the use of open educational resources for learning English in the educational process of higher education institutions in the context of development of future philologists’ instrumental values are drawn.
The paper is aimed at presenting theoretical and empirical research on developing learning-style based activities for boosting the translation skills of BA students majoring in English-to-Ukrainian agrarian sphere translation. The participants of the research are 60 BA students taking English-to-Ukrainian agrarian sphere translation at National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine. To collect empirical data we used the modality questionnaire developed by O’Brien (1990). The novelty of the study is in combining theoretical and empirical research concerning the learning styles of BA students majoring in English-to-Ukrainian agrarian sphere translation, developing learning-style based activities aimed at boosting students’ translation skills and implementing developed learning-style based activities into the “The Theoretical and Practical Course of English-to-Ukrainian Agrarian Sphere Translation”. Learning-style based activities presented in this study might contribute greatly to the development of teaching materials aimed at boosting translation skills of students who major in agrarian sphere translation.
