This paper presents an experiment which focused on determining if a telecollaborative project work would help enhance students' foreign language skills and cross-cultural competence. Students from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and the Polytechnic University of Valencia worked together during the fall term in 2020, in which 56 Ukrainian and Spanish students were engaged in a telecollaborative programme -32 were master degree students at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, whereas the remaining 24 were bachelor engineering students at Polytechnic University of Valencia. Our students were engaged in a project work which consisted in the creation of a blog on the topic 'Sustainable Development Today'. The tools used in this project were mostly Google applications such as Classroom, Hangouts, Blogger, Drive, and Docs. In order to measure their progress, students took pre-tests before the project started and a post-test after its completion. These tests focused on assessing learners' language competence in English and also their cross-cultural competence. The language test used was designed by Cambridge University Press, whereas the cross-cultural test had been created by the Organizational Behavior Group (Piasentin, 2012). The latter focused on learners' willingness to engage, cognitive flexibility and openness, emotional regulation, tolerance of uncertainty, self-efficacy, and ethnocultural empathy. As expected, the students who participated in this virtual exchange programme enhanced their competence on both foreign language cross-cultural competences by taking an active part in the telecollaborative project work.
O. Demydenko, A. Kyrychenko. Some linguacultural types of "The Canterbury Tales" (by G. Chaucer). The article deals with the contemporary studies of the linguocultural types. The research is mainly based on "The Canterbury Tales" by Geoffrey Chaucer, a medieval literary masterpiece that has become crucial for the further development of the English language and literature. Although this literary work has been widely studied and discussed by the different scientists it still lacks the research from the viewpoint of linguocultural studies and linguopsychology. Thus, the authors focus their attention on such characters of "The Canterbury Tales" as the Knight and the Wife of Bath considering them as the linguocultural types of the Knight and Feminist and illustrating their conclusions with the examples from the original masterpiece and its Ukrainian translation. The article briefly outlines the prospects for further study of classical literature in terms of linguocultural, linguopersonological and semiotical studies. The authors believe that the study will contribute not only to the further development of the linguocultural types theory, but also to the in-depth consideration of the types represented in "The Canterbury Tales", as well as their representatives in the world literar y heritage.
It is stated that today's media is firmly entrenched in human society. The media discourse is a powerful tool of influencing the human mind. Being dynamic in nature, the language of the media responds most quickly to all the changes in public consciousness. It is in the language of the media that it is easy to notice the new trends in approaches to language learning. A special place is occupied by the terminological allusiveness that plays an important role in the study of language of the XXI century. This article is devoted to the investigation of such linguistic phenomenon as terminological allusiveness specifically in the media discourse. The authors begin the study with the general overview of the main features, functions and categories of the media discourse. In addition, they describe key peculiarities of the allusion and term phenomena. At the same time, special attention is paid to the unconventional combination of the allusive units with terms of the exact and natural sciences as an exclusive stylistic device of the media discourse. The research paper also presents the various approaches to classification of such linguistic phenomenon, which are supported by the multiple examples. The research encourages the idea of further investigation of terminological allusiveness. The results of this study can assist any linguist in adequate media discourse analysis.
