The consequences of the Syrian Civil War that started in March 2011 have been tragic and devastating for the Syrian people. Many of them have fled their country and sought asylum in other parts of the world, especially in Turkey. The unofficial figures suggest that there are close to six million Syrian refugees living in Turkey, yet over two million of them are not registered to work under the temporary protection provided by the Turkish government. As a result of this, it is impossible for many refugees to get a legally paid job. Refugees usually work in informal sectors for extremely low wages. This makes refugees vulnerable to exploitation at work and get employed at jobs that locals are reluctant to do. This chapter highlights the case study of two non-profit companies that have been launched by two young Turkish social entrepreneurs in Turkey to create employment opportunities to provide regular and sustainable income to Syrian refugees that public and private sectors have failed to meet and address.
Case based learning is an important feature of business education as it enables students to discover and develop their unique framework for understanding real business situations and dealing with business problems. The objective of this paper was to show the outcomes of teaching an introductory management course to non-business students using the case methodology. The study was conducted on computer engineering students at a university in Turkey to investigate their perceptions and approaches towards case based learning. The data was collected through a survey and classroom observations. The results show that the students' active participation and discussion in class on cases increased their retention and motivation in learning the new concepts.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced higher education institutions to shift from face-to-face courses to emergency online education. This qualitative study explores 43 Master of Business graduate students' experiences and challenges during this transition at a university in Turkey. The overarching themes included the following: 1) the importance of students' engagement and motivation, 2) flexibility being key, 3) the importance of digitalization/ use of technology, 4) the importance of mental and physical health, and 5) remembering nothing is normal. The findings supported the idea that online education is essential in times of lockdown and social distancing during a pandemic; however, understanding and meeting the needs of students is critical as educators move forward while teaching via new platforms.
