In this investigation an electochemical cell has been designed for the direct measurement of silicon content in hot metal. Data of EMF vs. Si concentration have been obtained in Fe-Si-G sat melts at 1500 DC, for Si content from 0.05 to 1.2%. Experimental values agree fairly well with EMF values calculated from thermodynamic data. Owing to its sensitivity and long working life the sensor can be used for continuous, long term measurement in hot metal.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
