The ongoing pandemic of the novel 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the implementation of quarantine policies have led to substantial changes in daily routine for most Canadians. These policies, including the prohibition of large gatherings and the closure of nonessential businesses, have had a significant impact on mental wellbeing, leading to an increase in anxiety and stress among the public. It is therefore essential to consider the impact of COVID-19 and quarantine from a psychological lens. The effects of the pandemic and resulting quarantine policies are discussed from a sleep health perspective. Heightened anxiety and limited avenues for social support during the quarantine are discussed as precipitating factors for an increase in sleep disturbances. The impact of a lack of routine and reduction in physical activity on sleep regulatory processes is explored. Finally, strategies to reduce anxiety and strengthen sleep processes based on empirical evidence are presented in the context of the current pandemic.
