Background: Surgery is one of medical interventions which can cause fear, anxiety, and stressed because of its effects toward the integrity of body and soul. Nurses have significant roles in any preoperative care which is helping patients to decrease preoperative anxiety by using complementary therapy. The use of music therapy as one of the complementary therapies is not common in Indonesia. Therefore, scientific studies to prove the role of this therapy to decrease the level of anxiety of pre-operative patients is needed. Objective: To investigate the effects of music therapy in reducing anxiety levels of preoperative patients. Methods: A quasy experimental study with pre-test and post-test design with control group was applied to 50 respondents from medical ward in Panembahan Senopati Hospital of Yogyakarta who met the inclusion criteria.Dara were then analyzed by using t-test statistical analysis. Results: The control group showed the increased value of anxiety level of0.8 without music intervention (t= - 1503, df = 24, p<.05), whereas the intervention group showed the decreased value of anxiety level of -5.52 (t=5.081, df=24, p<.05). Meanwhile the independent t-test results for both groups showed a significant difference between group (t= 3,373, df=48, p<.05). Conclusion: Music therapy has significant effect in reducing preoperative anxiety levels of patients. Keywords: anxiety, preoperative, music therapy
AbstractHypnotherapy has not been widely known and developed as a nursing therapy in Indonesia. The research was aimed to identify the effect of hypnosis in reducing the pain sensation of orthopedic post-operative patients. This quasy-experimental study involved 32 respondents, 16 respondents for each control and intervention group. The pain was measured by numeric pain intensity scale of 0 to 5. The hypnotherapy procedure was conducted using a cassette-recorder. The data were undertaken directly by the researcher at two hospitals. Independent t-test showed that there was a significant average deviation of the pain sensation level in the pre and post therapy from both groups (P = 0.020, = 0.05). However, the average deviation of pain sensation level of the intervention group was greater than the control group. The same result was obtained with paired t-test sample. There was a significant average deviation of pain sensation levels in the pre and post therapy for both groups (p = 0.000, = 0.05). The combination therapy between analgesic and hypnotherapy was more effective in reducing the level of orthopedic postoperative pain sensation than the single therapy.
Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) has been found effective to improve students' comprehension on language and communication skill. This study aimed at investigating whether (or not) mind mapping, as a part of learning technics, was potential to increase students' engagement in learning English in English as foreign language (EFL) class which implemented TBLT approach. Two groups of student with the same level of English ability (according to their English lecturer) who are majoring in Business Administration were involved as research participants. They were divided into two groups, one experiment group of 30 students and one control group 30 students. Both groups were given a 6-session English learning each. The experiment group was given TBLT approach with mind mapping technic and the control group was given English learning with conventional method and materials. The topic discussed was 'making business letter'. During learning session, students of experiment group were found more creative and stated that 'mind mapping technic' was effective to improve their comprehension of the topic and engagement being compared to control group. They were much helped with mind mapping as a role play activity.
Bali State Polytechnic (PNB) has used the label "green", such as the "green campus" and "green tourism", as a flagship program to show its concern for ecological awareness. Ecolinguistics is a combination of linguistics and ecology studying the relationship between the use of language in discourse related to the environment. This study aims to see how the ecological insights possessed by outstanding students are revealed through their written works (languages). From the primary data source in the form of 10 written works of achieving students in 2020, ecological insights will be identified in which they are revealed in the choice of words containing ecological content. The results show that the average ratio of ecological word used and the number of words in writing is 0.84%, while the average vocabulary, 9 types of ecological words for each writing contain an average of 2065 words. With the assumption based on the cognitive linguistic theory that thoughts are expressed through language, it can be concluded that students' ecological insight and awareness have not developed optimally as far as it is expressed through word choice (diction). It suggests that the PNB students need to broaden their ecological insights through language learning, especially reading texts based on ecolinguistics.
Ecological awareness, labelled with green, has been a familiar icon for institutions and businesses around the world. Higher education, especially Polytechnic serving as a vocational institution preparing students for workplace, needs efforts to equip its graduates with ecological awareness and knowledge. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to develop reading module supporting for such a goal by inserting ecological aspects in reading materials. The result of initially questionnaire about the importance and urgency of this module, taken from English lecturers in Bali State Polytechnic, shows that 94,4% respondents agree and very agree. Following 10 steps required by Research &Development, this reading module is ready to be implemented in English classes.Module consists of four components: ecological text, comprehensive questions, exploration/problem solving and vocabulary. After having tried out in two compared two classes, the result of the experimental group is better than the controlled one. The next step is to evaluate and improve it by trying out in wider users.
