Motivated by work of Buch on set-valued tableaux in relation to the K-theory of the Grassmannian, we study six combinatorial Hopf algebras. These Hopf algebras can be thought of as K-theoretic analogues of the by now classical "square" of Hopf algebras consisting of symmetric functions, quasisymmetric functions, noncommutative symmetric functions and the Malvenuto-Reutenauer Hopf algebra of permutations. In addition, we develop a theory of set-valued P -partitions and study three new families of symmetric functions which are weight generating functions of reverse plane partitions, weak set-valued tableaux and valued-set tableaux.
This is the first of a series of papers where we develop a theory of total positivity for loop groups. In this paper, we completely describe the totally nonnegative part of the polynomial loop group GL n (R[t, t −1 ]), and for the formal loop group GL n (R((t))) we describe the totally nonnegative points which are not totally positive. Furthermore, we make the connection with networks on the cylinder. Our approach involves the introduction of distinguished generators, called whirls and curls, and we describe the commutation relations amongst them. These matrices play the same role as the poles and zeroes of the Edrei-Thoma theorem classifying totally positive functions (corresponding to our case n = 1). We give a solution to the "factorization problem" using limits of ratios of minors. This is in a similar spirit to the Berenstein-Fomin-Zelevinsky Chamber Ansatz where ratios of minors are used. A birational symmetric group action arising in the commutation relation of curls appeared previously in Noumi-Yamada's study of discrete Painlevé dynamical systems and Berenstein-Kazhdan's study of geometric crystals.

Abstract. The rings of SL(V ) invariants of configurations of vectors and linear forms in a finite-dimensional complex vector space V were explicitly described by Hermann Weyl in the 1930s. We show that when V is 3-dimensional, each of these rings carries a natural cluster algebra structure (typically, many of them) whose cluster variables include Weyl's generators. We describe and explore these cluster structures using the combinatorial machinery of tensor diagrams. A key role is played by the web bases introduced by G. Kuperberg.
We prove Okounkov's conjecture, a conjecture of Fomin-Fulton-Li-Poon, and a special case of Lascoux-Leclerc-Thibon's conjecture on Schur positivity and give several more general statements using a recent result of Rhoades and Skandera. An alternative proof of this result is provided. We also give an intriguing log-concavity property of Schur functions.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
