Automated refraction is stabile 1 week after uncomplicated cataract surgery, but there is a trend towards instability, if the refractive target is missed with 1.0 D or more.

MMC IDK seems to be simpler and quicker than the modern trabeculectomy, and with similar success rate and safety. Revision by internal needling is easy and efficient. Thus, MMC IDK may be a valid alternative and may also be recommended after failed MMC trabeculectomy, replacing shunting. Randomized, controlled studies are indicated.

Eighty-nine glaucomatous eyes which had been operated with Holth's iridencleisis later underwent cataract extraction performed by the superior route to retain the filtering area. Of these eyes, 62 were, prior to the cataract extraction, normo-or hypotensive without medication and none of these eyes became hypertensive postoperatively nor was antiglaucomatous treatment needed. The remaining 27 eyes were receiving antiglaucomatous medication prior to the cataract extraction. After the cataract extraction, ocular tension increased by more than 5 mmHg in 2 eyes, remained at approximately the same level in 4 eyes, and decreased to normal values without medication in 21 eyes. I n the whole material only 6 eyes needed antiglaucomatous medication after cataract extraction. Cataract operation in glaucomatous eyes previously operated by Holth's iridencleisis had a tendency to normalize the ocular tension in both hypertensive and hypotensive eyes.

One of the few things in the squint-therapy upon which we all agree is that the therapy that to day is the usual is most unsatisfactory in its results.If we put the squinters to between 2 and 4 per cent of the population and realize that by far the greater number of them, with or without treatment, go out into life without binocular vision and a great many with unilateral amblyopia it is evident that the problem here discussed is one of first order.In the following suggestions for treatment I omit the orthoptic treatment not because I wish to give judgment on thc method but because I am of opinion that the orthoptic treatment can hardly be practised in countries with great distances and a slender population.It also ought to be considered that the orthoptic treatment can only be put into practice at a point of time when amblyopia and suppression and anomalous correspondence already are apparent and consequently will have to affect the final result.According to recent points of view both the visual acuity and the binocular vision are qualities under development during early infancy.Duke Elder divides the squint-amblyopia into a part caused by prevention of natural development -the same amblyopia *) Received may 25th 1952.
