Nevertheless, Manogaran places the blame for much of the ethnic conflict squarely on Sinhalese chauvinists who refuse to think of anything except a military solution. He asserts that a solution should be sought in the framework of increased Tamil autonomy and a federal structure rather than in an ethnic partition of the island. If such a structure becomes acceptable to the Sri Lankan people, it may speak volumes for their wisdom.The editors and contributors have substantially fulfilled the declared aims of the book; they have produced a well-rounded collection about the Tamils of Sri Lanka. The perspective is Tamilian, not a Sinhalese-Tamil debate about Tamil autonomy.
