In this article, Y-90 microspheres are synthesized in three forms (resin microspheres, glass microspheres and gel microspheres) in Da Lat Nuclear Reactor (Vietnam) with a capacity of 500 kW for application in treatment of primary and secondary liver cancers. Characterization and quality of Y-90 microspheres are checked by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energydispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), chemical purity, radionuclide purity, radiochemical purity, sterility, bacterial endotoxins, toxic heavy metals (ICP-MS) and product stability over time. The results showed that Y-90 resin microspheres, Y-90 glass microspheres and Y-90 gel microspheres with particle sizes of 20-30 µm have a high specific activity to meet the quality standards of radiopharmaceuticals according to British Pharmacopoeia 2016. This is a promising radiopharmaceuticals in treatment of primary and secondary liver cancers using radioembolization in Vietnam.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
