BACKGROUND: This paper assesses the functioning of the next generation of permeable pavement systems. The overall concept is to combine traditional permeable pavement systems with ground source heat pump systems. Long-term research to provide data concerning nutrient reductions and microbial activity within experimental pavement rigs is required.
Climate change means storm runoff is becoming an increasing problem in urban areas, and yet so is water supply. A novel permeable pavement design that combines water-harvesting with a heat-exchange system could help solve everything. Piotr Grabowiecki and Miklas Scholz of The University of Edinburgh report.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
