A feature of modern society in the era of cultural globalization is its mobility. One of the manifestations of this social mobility is people spending free time on tourist trips. Tourism, as understood as a sociocultural phenomenon, is a special manifestation of location. In addition to the motives for undertaking trips in martial arts tourism, individual destinations, specific tourism potential and the typology of participants in tourist meetings were analyzed, and individual cases were examined. The research materials were 44 articles published in scientific journals indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, and EBSCOHost databases. Publications, which appeared in the sources discussed between 2005 and mid-2020s were considered. Some periodicals were present in all three of the quoted databases, therefore specific articles were taken into account only once. This study will cover a meta-analysis of martial arts tourism in journals indexed in several major scientific databases. It is related to the phenomenon of tourism of this type, which is discussed from various scientific perspectives. As a research tool, the Atlas.ti program was used (mainly in the qualitative research or analysis of qualitative data), by means of which correlations and dominant items were sought. A comparison with other publications suggests that no similar meta-analysis has so far been performed in relation to the literature devoted to the subject of “martial arts tourism”. Particularly interesting conclusions were identified: (1) there are thematic relations between the destination country, the main destination, and the destination country; (2) martial arts are treated by researchers as both primary, and secondary threads, (3) the difference between travel destinations and types events attended by people interested in martial arts, (4) the variety of event formats plays a role in popularizing the subject of these forms of physical activity, and (5) the number of publications describing specific destinations is not particularly related to specific countries as destinations.
A scientific framework for this study is the Humanistic Theory of Martial Arts, and the psychology of sport using the concepts of goal, task and success. The problem and aim of this study was an explanation of "perception of success" in groups of adults practising martial arts. Is perception of success influenced by the respondents' social background or the type of martial art practised? Would there be any differences in results depending on their country of origin and residence, and if so, what results? The research was done within the framework of the IMACSSS.1A/2011: "Social determinants of participation in martial arts schools and clubs". The tool was Perception of Success Questionnaire, which was used to survey a number of respondents from the United States, the Czech Republic and Poland, who were selected randomly and participated voluntarily. The statements and calculations have been ranked by more or less contact forms of martial arts. The results obtained in this study indicate a poor relationship between perception of success and the type of fighting style practised and a measurable relationship between the perception of success and social origin. There is a weak relationship in perception of success by respondents from American or European cultures.
Purpose. Analysis of the image of "martial arts and fighting sports" tourism in mass media which was created on the basis of selected materials and means of communication used for their presentation. Indication of discourses related to participants` travels in order to gain theoretical and practical knowledge on martial arts and fighting sports (with indication of exposed and potentially marginalised content) on the example of the Fight Quest TV show. Methods. Qualitative analysis of the mass media content of thirteen episodes. The subject of this analysis was audiovisual materials considered in terms of selected content constituting elements of compositional modality (including production, existence and potential reception). The coding of responses (possibly in the most relevant categories) and the presentation of the results were carried out using the Atlas.ti computer programme. Findings. The use of specialist discourse on the subject of martial arts and fighting sports by the creators of the show. The positive attitude of the main characters to learning martial arts and fighting sports as one of the forms of cultural tourism. The marginal occurrence of the subject of practicing sightseeing and religious tourism by the participants. Research and conclusions limitations. Empirical research concerns only one television programme and does not take other types of media productions with similar themes into account. Practical implications. The results of the research may be useful both in terms of analysis of various types of tourism and media discourses about "martial arts and fighting sports" tourism. Originality. Analysis of the subject of "martial arts and fighting sports" tourism in a small number of scientific studies. Type of paper. An article presenting the results of empirical research.
