The preliminary phytochemical screening and fluorescence characterization of several medicinal plant extracts from East Java Indonesia have been carried out. Some medicinal plants used in this study are Annona muricata, Strobilanthes crispus, Piper ornatum and Andrographis paniculata. The objective of this research is to find out the result of phytochemical screening and characterization of several medicine plants by fluorescence spectroscopy. The plant part in the form of leaves is extracted using maceration method. The extraction process was carried out for 3 days with ethanol solvent in room temperature. The result of preliminary phytochemical screening showed the existence of secondary metabolite compounds in several medicinal plant extracts, among others, alkaloid, saponin, terpenoid, steroid, tannin and flavonoid. The fluorescence characterization spectra obtained shows that several medicinal plant extracts have optimum absorption at wavelength of excitation of 323 – 342 nm and wavelength of emission of 662 – 685 nm.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
