Background: Caries can be caused by a lack of individual knowledge about dental health and attitudes to pay attention to dental hygiene. Parents have the most important role in determining the personality, habits and behavior of the child in taking care of the teeth and mouth. Every action taken by the parents will have an influence on the character of the child. Parents who provide a positive parenting pattern to their child, will form good personality, habits and behavior towards the child. But on the contrary, parents who are less attentive and do not care will form negative personalities, habits and behaviors. Purpose: To find out relationship of parents role to caries incident in adolescents at Sungai Loban Subdistrict. Methods: This study used an observational analytic method in the form of cross-sectional research and a simple random sampling technique. The research population was grade VII students at SMP Negeri 1 Sungai Loban as many as 63 respondents. Results: The Spearman test obtained significant score results of 0.000<0.05 which means there is a correlation between the role of parents to the incidence of caries in children. The correlation value is – 0.927 and includes a very strong correlation in the negative direction (-), it can be interpreted that the relationship is opposite or if the child's caries is high then the role of parents tends to be low. Conclusion: There is a relationship of parents role to caries incident in adolescents.
Background: Periapical radiographic x-ray exposure can blood cells damage, such as platelets by forming free radicals indirectly or attacks DNA and RNA of cells directly. Antioxidants are needed to counteract the effects of free radicals from periapical radiographic x-ray exposure. One of the natural antioxidant compounds that can be used is kasturi leaf extract which contain flavonoid, phenol, tannin, alkaloid, terpenoid, and saponin. Objective: To measure and analyze the effect of kasturi leaf extract on platelets levels of male mice exposed to periapical x-ray radiography. Methods: This study used a true experimental method with a post test only design with a control group design. The samples were used 24 male mice aged 3-4 months which weighed 20-25 grams. Mice were divided into 4 groups, each group consisted of 6 mice. Mice were given kasturi leaf extract and exposed by x-ray periapical radiograph and platelets levels were measured with hematology analyzer automatically. Results: The results showed that the highest platelets level were found in the group that was only given kasturi leaf extract (P4), while the lowest group was in the group that was given kasturi leaf extract and exposed to periapical radiographs once (P1). Conclusion: The result of the study using ANOVA test showed that there was no significant difference in each experimental group. Antioksidan diperlukan untuk menangkal efek radikal bebas dari paparan sinar-X radiografi periapikal. Senyawa antioksidan alami yang dapat digunakan salah satunya adalah daun kasturi yang mengandung flavonoid, fenol, tannin, alkaloid, terpenoid, dan saponin. Tujuan: Untuk mengukur dan menganalisis pengaruh ekstrak daun kasturi terhadap kadar trombosit mencit jantan yang dipapar sinar-X radiografi periapikal. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode true experimental dengan rancangan post test only with control group design. Sampel yang digunakan adalah 24 ekor mencit jantan berusia 3-4 bulan yang memiliki berat badan 20-25 gram. Mencit dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok, masing-masing kelompok berjumlah 6 ekor mencit. Mencit diberi ekstrak daun kasturi dan dipapar sinar-X radiografi periapikal dan kadar trombosit diukur menggunakan hematology analyzer secara otomatis. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kadar trombosit tertinggi terdapat pada kelompok yang hanya diberi ekstrak daun kasturi (P4), sedangkan kelompok terendah terdapat pada kelompok yang diberi ekstrak daun kasturi dan dipapar sinar-X radiografi periapikal sebanyak 1 kali paparan (P1). Background: The majority of tooth decay is caused by improper brushing behavior. The correct behavior for tooth brushing refers to the Federation Dentaire Internationale (FDI), including the behaviour of tooth brushing every day at least twice a day, after breakfast and before going to bed at night. The results of RISKESDAS in 2018 reported that only 4.96% of adolescents aged 10-14 years who brushed their teeth properly in the city of Banjarbaru. WhatsApp groups as a media for health promotion is considered as an effective strategy to disseminate information to improve one's knowledge and behavior towards a better outcome. Purpose: To analyze the effectiveness of WhatsApp as a health promotion medium in improving the behavior of brushing teeth properly based on the Federation Dentaire Internationale (FDI) in grade VII students at SMPN 2 Banjarbaru. Material and Methods: This study used a pre-experiment design with one group post test pre test design with simple random sampling technique. The research was conducted at SMPN 2 Banjarbaru with a sample of 173 respondents. Results: The results of the pre test measurement showed that there no respondents in the bad behavior category (0%), 45 respondents (26%) in the moderate category and 128 respondents (74%) in the good category. The result of post test measurement revealed that there were no respondent in bad and moderate category that 173 respondents were fell into good behaviour category. The results of the Wilcoxon comparison test obtained a significance value of 0.000 <0.05, meaning that there was a difference in behavior between before and after being given health promotion. Conclusion: Counseling using WhatsApp social media is effective in increasing the behavior of proper toot brushing according to FDI.Keywords: Health promotion, Proper brushing behavior, Whatsapp
Background: Exposure to periapical radiographic X-ray radiation can indirectly affect biological material which will trigger the formation of free radicals. An imbalance in the level of free radicals causes oxidative stress. To reduce it, additional antioxidants obtained from nature are needed. Natural antioxidants can be obtained from the peel of red dragon fruit which the function is to reduce the presence of free radicals. Objective: to analyze the effect of red dragon fruit peel extract administration in mice absolute monocyte counts in periapical radiographic exposure. Method: This study was a true experimental design with a post-test only with control group design. The research sample used 24 mice. Samples were divided into 6 groups: the control group was not given with the treatment, P1 to P4 group were given red dragon fruit peel extract at a dose of 100 mg / kg bb and exposed to radiation with different exposures, P5 group was given red dragon fruit peel extract but not exposed. P1 group was exposed to 1 dose (0.63 mGy), P2 group was exposed to 4 doses (1.66 mGy), P3 group was exposed to 8 doses (4.37 mGy), and P4 group was exposed to 12 doses (8.19 mGy). Results: This study showed that there were changes in the number of monocytes in all groups. The Games Howell test showed that the P1 group had a significant difference compared to the P4 and P5 groups. Conclusion: There is an effect of red dragon fruit peel extract administration in mice absolute monocyte counts in periapical radiographic exposure.
Background: Oral health is an integral component of public health. The incidence of oral disease is mostly due to neglected oral hygiene factors, especially in adolescents who begin to develop more independence and self-care responsibilities including oral and dental hygiene that are effectively manage by themselves instead of their parents. Therefore, this period requires proper direction for adolescents as a form of prevention in maintaining oral health. However, during the Covid 19 pandemic, direct outreach activities were avoided so that Line as social media application was used to overcome obstacles in delivering counseling materials. Purpose: To analyze the effectiveness of outreach using Line as social media application for students at SMP Negeri 1 Rantau, Tapin Regency.Methods: Using true experimental design with pretest-postest design with control design with simple random sampling technique. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Rantau Tapin Regency with a sample of 114 respondents.Results: The Wilcoxon test in the poster intervention group obtained a significance value of 0.003 <0.05 and the poster intervention 0.015 <0.05,Referring that there was a difference in knowledge between before and after counseling. While the control group obtained a significance value of 0.619> 0.05, referring that there was no difference in knowledge between before and after counseling was given.
