An investigation into the azeotropes formed between the seven C2, C3, and C4 thiols and 28 different hydrocarbons has been carried out. As a result, 55 azeotropes between thiols and paraffins and naphthenes have been determined and their physical properties measured. Benzene formed no azeotropes with any of these thiols. Davis in the chairAfter an introduction outlining the reasons for the recent increase in the importance of continuous dyeing of synthetic-polymer fibres and the advantages to be gained from it, consideration is given to the equipment required for the three stages of the process padding, drying, and baking. Selection of disperse dyes for polyester fibres is discussed, and methods for dyeing polyestercellulosic fibre blends continuously with leuco-vat esters, vat, disperse and vat, and disperse and reactive dyes are described. The advantages to be gained from dyeing the polyester portion of polyester-wool blends continuously are given. The final section deals with the continuous dyeing of nylon, and compares the effects of baking and steaming treatments.
