The paper summarizes recently obtained results on mercury chalcogenides high temperature p-T diagrams 1) 2) 3). Differential thermal analysis (D.T.A) was used to determine the melting curves and phase transitions of mercury chalcogenides at gas pressure up to 2 GPa. Melting as well as zinc blende (B3) - cinnabar (B9) transition temperatures and pressures of HgS, HgSe,HgTe were measured. The resulting p-T diagrams are presented and discussed.
The topotactic interpretation of the zinc blende-cinnabar phase transformation is presented along with the results of elastic properties of zinc blende HgX, close to transition. The influence of Phillips bond ionicity factor 4) 5) on the stabilization of the cinnabar structure with pressure is discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
