From a sample of 98 hyperon production events observed in a liquid hydrogen bubble chamber the partial cross sections for various final states are found to be: 2 + iT%-0.047,i:^7r 0 -0.011, (A°2°)i^7r + -0.014, (AW)K + mr + -0.002, all in millibarns. For the first four processes the values are in general agreement with those calculated by Ferrari using a one-pion-exchange model. Only one example of impair production was observed, indicating a cross section less than 0.01 mb.
A study of antiproton-proton collisions at 3.3 and 3.7 BeV/c indicates that (41±4)% of the total inter action cross section can be attributed to annihilation into pions. The average pion multiplicity is 6.5±0.5. The positively charged pions and dipions tend to be emitted backward, while the negatively charged pions and dipions tend to be emitted forward in the center-of-mass system. Although there is a substantial amount of resonance production, especially of p and of o> mesons, there is no clear evidence for double or associated resonance production in these final states. A search for new resonances as well as for some of the recently discovered mesons proved unsuccessful.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
