[(18)F]FDG-PET is highly effective in assessing the activity and the extent of large-vessel vasculitis. Visual grading was validated as representing the severity of inflammation. Its use is simple and provides high specificity, while high sensitivity is achieved by scanning in the state of active inflammation.
Various Croton species yielded a number of diterpenes which have been found to possess antiulcer (1), anticancer (2), and co-carcinogenic properties (3). Our investigation of Crown megalocarpus, collected from the Chiromo campus of the University of Nairobi, has yielded among other compounds, a novel diterpene belonging to the rare clerodane-type compounds possessing a 9,1O-abeo-CH3 group (1) (4).
The experiments provide evidence for an antiphlogistic effect of irradiation with 5 times 1.0 Gy in vivo. They support the clinical observations of the efficacy of anti-inflammatory radiotherapy.
