Introduction:Traumatic brain injury (TBI) constitutes a significant burden on health care resources in India. TBI is a dynamic process which involves damage to the brain thus leading to behavior cognitive and emotional consequences.Aim:To study the cognitive profile, post-concussion symptoms (PCS), quality of life (QOL), and their correlation.Methods:A total of 60 patients with TBI were recruited and assessed for neuropsychological profile, PCS, and QOL, the correlation among the variables were analyzed.Results:The results suggest that TBI has series of consequences which is interrelated, and the study has implications for rehabilitation of TBI.Conclusion:The study highlights the deficits of cognition, and its correlation with PCS and QOL, emphasizing integrated rehabilitation approach for patients with TBI.
Road traffic injuries are the leading cause (60%) of brain injury. It is estimated that India would occupy third position for Traumatic brain injury (TBI) by 2020. The most vulnerable group of population is the young adults for TBI. The purpose of the present study was to examine neurofeedback training (NFT) to enhance verbal and visual learning and memory in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Single case pre- and post-intervention study was adopted. The neuropsychological profile of the patient was compared pre and post NFT. Patient with mild head-injury was given 20 sessions of NFT, 45 min/day, 5 days a week. The training incorporated video feedback to increase the frequency of alpha waves (8?12 Hz): and to decrease theta waves (4?7 Hz). The pre assessment showed impairment in verbal learning and memory. Results indicated improvement in both verbal and visual learning memory in patient post NFT. The present study puts forward that NFT should be taken into account to plan for rehabilitation of patients with TBI for enhancement of learning and memory.
Background:The complex interaction of human, vehicle and environmental factors along with a lack of sustainable preventive programs has contributed to the “silent epidemic” of traumatic brain injuries (TBI). TBI poses a grave threat to the quality-of-life (QOL).Aim:The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of neurofeedback in QOL in patients with TBI.Materials and Methods:Pre- and post-interventional study design was adopted. Sixty patients, 30 in the intervention group (IG) and 30 in waitlist group with the diagnosis of TBI in the age range of 18-49 years were assessed on QOL scale, after obtaining the informed consent. Patients in the IG were given 20 sessions of alpha-theta neurofeedback training (NFT), 5 sessions / week.Statistics Analysis:Descriptive statistics, Spearman's correlation, Mann-Whitney and Chi-squared test was used.Results and Conclusion:Patients in the IG showed statistical improvements in QOL post post-neurofeedback. Results are encouraging for the incorporation of NFT into treatment programs for patients with TBI in improving QOL.

Neurofeedback training (NFT) was employed as an intervention to study its efficacy in postconcussion symptoms, cognitive deficits, and quality of life. A pre-post design was adopted in which the intervention group underwent NFT and the other waitlist group served as a control. NFT was found to be efficacious in ameliorating postconcussion symptoms and cognitive dysfunctions and improving quality of life.
