The Hippocradc oath Is alive and well in North America EDITOR,-If, as Irvine Loudon speculates,' oath taking by medical graduates in the United Kingdom is a myth it stands in stark contrast with the use of medical oaths in Canada and the United States. I have followed the growth of the use of medical oaths in the United States for 30 years.2 Currently, about 98% of the medical schools in the United States use some form ofmedical oath.
