The objective of this inquiry was to investigate the high performance sport as a contribution for social inclusion of blind athletes of the Benjamin Constant Institute. It was observed that the previous students of the Institute, up to two decades before, did not proceed in their studies, although they had egalitarian and constitutional opportunity as a Brazilian citizen. Ten blind athletes, previous students of the Institute from 1994 to 1998, were interviewed. They had, at the time of the research, the high performance athletes' condition and were at the same time citizens, who work, study and are independent. The inquiry used the qualitative method, employing the semi-structured interview as the instrument of investigation (Flick, 2005;Ruquoy, 2005). The "Content Analysis" technique was used to treat the data (Minayo et al., 2002). The results were organized around three categories: the importance of the sport, orientation and mobility, and life before and after being an athlete. The inquiry concluded that high performance sport contributed to the social inclusion of all the interviewed ones. His testimonies hold the sport responsible as a primordial factor for realization of part of his ideals, suggesting this practice in all the institutions of special teaching.
In order to incorporate smart elements into distribution networks at ITELCA laboratories in Bogotá-Colombia, a Machine-to-Machine-based solution has been developed. This solution aids in the process of low-cost electrical fault location, which contributes to improving quality of service, particularly by shortening interruption time spans in mid-voltage grids. The implementation makes use of MQTT protocol with an intensive use of Internet of things (IoT) environment which guarantees the following properties within the automation process: Advanced reports and statistics, remote command execution on one or more units (groups of units), detailed monitoring of remote units and custom alarm mechanism and firmware upgrade on one or more units (groups of units). This kind of implementation is the first one in Colombia and it is able to automatically recover from an N-1 fault.
This case report describes the diagnosis, multidisciplinary treatment, and long-term follow-up of a severely compromised tooth in a patient who was referred for assessing a gingival recession. Clinical evaluation of the left maxillary canine showed 12 mm of mid-buccal gingival recession, probing depth of 14 mm on the mesial-buccal aspect, and grade III mobility. A periapical radiograph revealed extensive periapical and lateral radiolucency. The first step of the treatment was to carry out oral hygiene instructions and full-mouth debridement. After that, endodontic treatment was performed immediately. Periodontal reevaluation four months after endodontic therapy revealed that probing depths of all sites were within 3 mm and periapical radiograph showed a slight decrease in periapical and lateral radiolucency. It was subsequently decided to perform root coverage with a laterally positioned flap and subepithelial connective tissue graft. Six months after surgery, the root surface showed 1 mm recession, representing root coverage of 91.7% and a gain of attachment of 13 mm. The patient was enrolled in a 6-month supportive periodontal therapy. Treatment outcomes were evaluated over 18 years, with successful radiographic and clinical results throughout the follow-up period. The successful management of endo-periodontal lesions requires an accurate diagnosis, which is imperative to provide proper therapy in the correct treatment sequence.
