Increasing domestic demand for mangoes in recent years has increased rapidly, not only in terms of quantity but also in terms of quality of mango, especially for modern markets. But only a small part of the mango which could entered the modern market. Understanding of farmers' access to markets is needed to increase farmers' capacity as an effort to improve farmers' welfare. The purpose of this research were to: 1) Analyze socioeconomic characteristics of mango farmers in Indramayu Regency; 2) Analyze the mango marketing channelin Indramayu District; 3) Analyze the factors that influence the decision of mango farmers in market selection in Indramayu District. This research is a quantitative research with 130 mango farmers who were taken by using multi stage random sampling. Data were analyzed descriptively as well as logistic regression analysis. The results showed that most of the farmers were in productive age, had completed primary school education, had <100 trees, never participated in the activity, did not join to farmers group and partnership in marketing. Most farmers market their crops to collecting traders. The level of education of farmers, frequency of extension activities, access to information about mango’s market, quality requirements, the percentage of mango of goodquality and the attachment of farmers to certain financing sources are the factors that significantly influence the farmer's decision in choosing the market. The role of farmer groups is needed to collect farmers in marketing their crops with profitable systems for farmers.
ABSTRAKPetani masa kini dituntut memiliki jiwa kewirausahaan dan juga kemampuan manajemen usaha yang baik sehingga memiliki daya saing yang tinggi untuk menghadapi perubahan yang terjadi dalam dunia bisnis pertanian. Tantangan bagi sektor pertanian di Indonesia saat ini adalah memfasilitasi pengembangan wirausaha petani muda agar menjadi petani modern di masa depan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui transformasi petani sebagai hasil dari proses pendidikan kewirausahaan yang diberikan kepada petani muda terdidik. Mereka adalah lulusan Perguruan Tinggi (Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Padjadjaran) yang mengikuti Program Wirausaha Muda Pertanian (PWMP). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengembangan kompetensi kewirausahaan dapat diarahkan kepada petani muda terdidik yang memiliki semangat yang besar untuk berkembang. Petani muda yang berasal dari lulusan Perguruan Tinggi menjadi sangat potensial karena umumnya mereka memiliki keberanian mengambil risiko, mampu mengenali kelebihan atau potensi dirinya, selalu berorientasi pada proses dan hasil, adaptif terhadap perubahan, selalu berinovasi untuk kemajuan usahanya, bersedia untuk berjejaring dan berkolaborasi secara positif dengan pihak lain sehingga semua pihak dapat berkembang dan sukses secara bersama – sama, selalu membangun jaringan usaha (silaturahmi) dengan mitra dan stakeholder.Kata kunci: Wirausaha Muda, Kolaboratif, Transformasi, Petani MudaABSTRACTModern farmers must have an entrepreneurial spirit as well as good business management skills so it has a high competitiveness to cope with business changes. The challenge for the agricultural sector in Indonesia at this time is to facilitate the development of young entrepreneur farmers to become a modern farmer in the future. This study aims to determine the transformation of farmers as a result of the entrepreneurship education process provided to educated young farmers. They are graduates of Higher Education (Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University) who follow the Programe. The results show that the development of entrepreneurial competence can be directed to educated young farmers who have a great passion to be an entrepreneurial farmers. Currently, 90% of Indonesian small scale agribusiness actors arebeing faced to the global market era. They are also facing a fast growthrate of global market and the market segmentation phenomenon whichexpects positive changes and adaptations in the agricultural supply chain.The method that used in this study is case study. The study location wasbeing selected based on its potential of horticulture product.The study showed that currently the traders have changed theirbusiness pattern from a pure business to a business which relies more onthe partnership with the farmers. This phenomenon was being emerged bythe consumer demand which expects the continuity of supply.From the Social Business aspect point of view, generally thetraders do the partnership system because of their needs of continuity ofsupply from the farmers, not based on helping the farmers. The result ofweighting showed the total score placed between 28-32,5 which means itcan be categorized as a semi-social business.Overall, the study showed that currently the changes are happeningin the traders business pattern, thus, it gives hopes to the agriculturaldevelopment in Indonesia especially for horticulture products of smallscale stakeholders.Keywords: Global market, traders, horticulture, social business.
Mango Gedong Gincu (Mangifere var.Gedong indica) is one type of mango that is cultivated in West Java, particularly in Cirebon. Today the demand for mango Gedong Gincu from overseas customers is quite high. To achieve high competitiveness, especially in the face of free trade the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by Farmers Group will be vital.The specific objective of this research to see ICT used by the groups, and to analyze the obstacles encountered in the use of ICTs in the era of free trade. The study was conducted in Kab.Cirebon. With Qualitative research design and use System thinking with causal loop diagram analysis tools.The results showed that the use of ICT farmer groups are radio, television, computer, mobile phone, tabloid / newsletter, leaflet, fax and internet. Constraints application of ICT in Suka Mulya Farmer Group is divided on the environmental constraints, constraints skills, and particularly cultural constraints. Variable levers major obstacles to the implementation of ICT is lack of motivation of farmers to try ICT. Persuasive approach from the government, the agent and other components involved is expected to change the paradigm of farmers more aware of the benefits of ICT.
