ABSTRACT:The rapid growth in the use of fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture, excessive extraction of groundwater, and rise in the number of industries with inefficient waste disposal system have been some of the key factors in degradation of groundwater quality during the past years. Although groundwater is considered as a valuable natural resource, the quality control of this resource has systematically failed in India. Irrespective of rural or urban locations, the average sulphate contamination of groundwater in India has reached 90 to 150 mg/L. Such a borderline contamination concentration poses threat both to livelihood and to economy. In addition, the negative health effects of sulphatecontaminated drinking water can range from dermatitis to lung problems and skin cancer. The biostrategic manipulation of groundwater discussed in this article involves sulphate-reducing bacteria used in addition to a 3-step procedure involving constitutive aeration, filtration, and shock chlorination. With earlier use of a similar strategy in the United States and Europe proven to be beneficial, we propose a combinatorial and economical approach for processing of groundwater for removal of sulphur contamination, which still largely remains unnoticed and neglected.
An educational study was conducted to find out the effectiveness and attitude of community people regarding dengue fever. An estimated 500 000 people with severe dengue require hospitalization each year, a large proportion of whom are children. About 2.5% of those affected die. This study was done to assess the knowledge of community people on dengue fever, to administer a pamphlet on dengue fever and to evaluate the effectiveness of pamphlet on Dengue fever among the community People. Evaluative research approach and one group pre-test post test design was adopted to find out the effectiveness of health education on dengue fever among dengue fever. This study was conducted in community area of Village Madangir, New Delhi. The total sample comprises of 50 people. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the samples. Data was collected through structured questionnaire. Pamphlet was developed and distributed to enhance the knowledge of community people on dengue fever. Data was analyzed and interpreted using descriptive statistics. Pre-test and post test knowledge score was 11.44 and 18.82 respectively. The mean difference for knowledge was7.38 and for attitude was 0.96.The standard deviation for knowledge pretest and posttest score were 2.04 and 0.95 and for attitude it was 1.26 and 0.83 respectively.
Background: Since December 2019, a novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) began its journey around the world. The novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV, officially known as SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19) was first reported in December 2019, as a cluster of acute respiratory illness in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, from where it spread rapidly to over 198 countries. It was declared as a global pandemic by WHO on 12th March 2020.Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a highly transmittable infection and India due to its geographical location is vulnerable to a worst outbreak. India is suddenly increasing its hike in number of positive cases including number of healthcare professionals (HCPs) also acquired infection. Therefore, the aim of study is to assess knowledge and perception among health care workers in Delhi NCR, a vulnerable region, regarding COVID-19. Method: A web-based, cross-sectional study was conducted using a survey instrument to obtain responses from health care workers in Delhi NCR region. A 45-item survey instrument was developed using course materials available on WHO’s website on emerging COVID-19. The survey covered health care workers socio demographic profile, awareness, information sources, and knowledge and perceptions related to COVID-19. Result: The study findings suggest that the level of knowledge was good among health care workers and overall a positive perception was found about COVID 19. Conclusion: As the global threat of COVID-19 continues to emerge, greater efforts through educational campaigns that target HCWs and the wider population beyond borders are needed.
