The commercialization of higher education through the concept of Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Berbadan Hukum (PTN-BH) has led the higher competition among State University and Private University. It becomes a threat and challenge faced by State University in recruiting new students. A clearer understanding of why and how students choose universities is needed to develop the brand awareness enhancement strategies of State University. This paper aims to identify the factors that influence student’s decision of university choice, without regarding the individual aspects. The Deplhi technique is used at the stage of information gathering, in which four experts from higher education were being interviewed. The combination of HEdPERF dimensions and brand awareness indicators were used to develop the variables. The pilot study done through the sample of 1st-year undergraduate students enrolled in the Top 8 State Universities in Indonesia for the validation test using SPSS 16.0. This findings result that there are six factors in choosing higher education, including academics, facilities, campus life, reputation, industry linkage and access. The test and evaluations result that from 28 items proposed, there are 23 items that can be considered as the student’s decision in their choice of State University.
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to implement the combined approach of Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) and system dynamic (SD) for examining the impacts of several elements on the implementation of green supply chain management (GSCM) practices in the furniture industry concerning the amount of wood waste resulted and the demand of wood materials. Design/methodology/approach The paper develops an SD-based model by using four approaches, i.e., “demand of furniture”, “raw material”, “revenue of furniture industry” and “the implementation of green supply chain management (GSCM) practices”. Findings The simulation results have shown that the best conditions occur in the fourth scenario or a combined scenario. This scenario can guarantee a decrease in need of wood and discarded wood waste due to the use of wood waste for raw material by some industries. This scenario can thus increase the share of wood waste used as raw materials. Research limitations/implications The first limitation of this study is on the calculation of the amount of wood, which has used the data of wood products obtained from the Central Java Provincial Agency of the Environment and Forestry. This calculation has not taken into account the forest area degradation. Second, the demand for furniture has been converted from the historical data of domestic and foreign sales. Third, the model used in this study has not considered the decrease of the production cost and the increase of the profit gained by the wooden furniture small- and medium-sized enterprises that use the wood waste as part of their raw material. Practical implications This research provides essential insights into the context of implementing the policies to increase the implementation of GSCM practices. Originality/value This research can make a difference in two aspects. First, it has tested policies, not in isolation. It has simultaneously tested various combinations of policies because the furniture industry can be seen as a system with complex relationships among the elements. Second, this study can broaden scientific insights related to the use of the DEMATEL method in the SD methodology.
Abstract. Small Medium Enterprise's (SME) of traditional fish processing at Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia still focus their business on gain more profits. Sustainability aspect has not received enough attention yet. This study aims to review the sustainability level of SME smoked fish Semarang using product service system (PSS) method. PSS consists of three dimensions (1) Environment, (2) Socio-cultural and (3) Economic. Each dimension consists of 6 criteria's. PSS not only assess the level of sustainability but also formulated the recommendation to increase the industries sustainability level. Sustainability assessment and recommendations formulation is guided by a check-list form. Then, the portfolio diagram used to select these recommendations according to its feasibility to be implemented and its importance for the industries. The result of sustainability assessment for traditional fish processing is 0.44, categorized as medium level. The recommendations for the environmental dimension are (1) use of liquid smoke on fish processing and (2) use of wastewater treatment with anaerobic ponds Recommendation for the socio-cultural dimension is use personal protective tool to reduce worker risk on safety and health. Recommendation for the economic dimension is used social media for product marketing and increasing the economic value of fish lung wastes. Recommendations are then illustrated in a diagram in the form of radar sustainability.
Abstract[Title: Redesign of Product Layout in Supermarket Based on Purchase Behavior used Market Basket Analysis Method] The length of time that self-service buyers search for the necessary item reduces inconvenience. If the types and quantities of product are large enough and the locations of the products are far apart, the shopping time will be longer. This study aims to simulate the arrangement of product sold in supermarkets by considering consumer behavior in purchased product groups based on data from shopping receipts. The method used is market basket analysis, which measures support factors from product groups and arranges that must be placed close together based on confident value. The calculation results of Market Basket Analysis found eight pairs of product groups that should be placed close together according to the high support factor value. The closeness between product groups is then arranged according to the confident value and validated by measuring the value of the improvement ratio. The simulation of the distance that visitors must travel after the product is arranged according to the product group has a 10% reduction in distance compared to the product arrangement that does not consider product groups. Keywords: product arrangement, supermarket, Market Basket Analysis
