This study presents a modified current synchronous detection method for voltage control of self-excited induction generator (SEIG)-based standalone power generating system using a static reactive power compensator (STATCOM). The proposed STATCOM is a three-leg insulated gate bipolar transistor-based voltage source inverter with self-sustaining DC-bus capacitor. The STATCOM offers instantaneous voltage control of SEIG through reactive power compensation. In addition to voltage control, the STATCOM also provides load balancing under unbalanced loadings and harmonics compensation while feeding non-linear loads. The control of STATCOM is implemented using a modified current synchronous detection algorithm that uses a second-order generalised integrator (SOGI) to filter the sensed SEIG voltages and for estimating the amplitudes of individual phase voltages. The performance of the proposed SOGI-CSD-based control of STATCOM is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and verified experimentally on a developed SEIG-STATCOM system. Test results exhibit effective harmonics suppression and load balancing capabilities of the STATCOM along with instantaneous voltage control.
Advancement of power electronics and fabrication of self-commutated switching devices enhanced the prominence of multilevel inverters (MLI) for high power applications. The ability of MLI to be implemented with matured medium power electronic devices and less dc-link voltagesturnedtobeaviablealternativefor bulky transformer-based powerconverterforhigh-powermedium-voltageapplications. Though, these converters have wide market penetration for input transformer-less applications, their increase in switch count for higher-levels imposed size cost and complexity limitationsand, restricted them to lower levels.Need to reduce the device count requirement of the classical MLI configurations lead to the development of Reduced Device count (RDC) MLI configurations. Among the various RDC topologies reported, T-type has most appreciable reduced in switch count. This paper presents the implementation of the cascaded T-type RDC-MLI. Further the closed performance of the considered nine-level Cascaded T-type configuration is investigated by developing a shunt active power filter. The efficacy of the inverter for power quality enhancement is demonstrated in MATLAB/Simulinkenvironment.
Usually, the electric field can be determined for a simple physical system using analytical method in a GIB. But for a complex system, it is very complicated to find out and so, numerical methods like FDM, FEM, CSM are employed. Movement pattern i.epeak radial movement simulation done for Al and Cu particles for field calculation using CSM for levels of voltages namely 75kV, 100kV, 132kV, 145kV, in a 1-ϕ GIB.For Simulating Aluminium and Copper particles movement, peak radial and axial movements needs thorough particle dynamics understanding. Simulation is done by taking into accountmany forces like drag, gravitational and the forces of electrostatic in nature on particle and a mathematical modelling was done. Detailed analysis was made, and, in this paper, all the results of simulation are shown.
This paper presents a modified controller by integrating dual unified power quality conditioners: iUPQC controller with its utilization in microgrid and power-quality utilizations. By applying this regulatory controller it extends the quality of power characteristics just like the UPQC controller it offers reactive power regulation both at load-side bus voltage and at grid-side bus voltage, which also compensates voltage swell & sag. At grid-side iUPQC controller will work as a STATCOM, by providing all the conventional UPQC applications both at the grid-side and load-side. Simulink consequences are providing to validate the latest predictability of the apparatus. Index Terms: Dual topology: iUPQC, unified power quality conditioner (UPQC), power quality, micro grids, STATCOM-static synchronous compensator.
This paper starts with the benchmark analysis of shunt active power filter (SAPF) for adjustingeither compensations of harmonic current or compensating reactive power. Such equipment can capable of minimizing the content of harmonics present in the grid side generated by the non-linear loads. The proposed work represents the proficient responseof shunt active power filter for annihilates the contents of harmonics to keep the better quality of power supply. The implementation of SAPF on three-phase bridge (TPB) converters associated with cascaded single-stage transformers has been introduced. The transformers arrangements allow the compensator to utilize one dc-link unit that simplifies the management strategy and themode of operation. The system waveforms are provided by employing an appropriate pulse width modulation (PWM) technique having good co-relation with transformer turn ratio. System overview and easy maintenance create the projected SAPF has an efficient solution related with some standard previous configured model. The proposed model, PWM method and the control managements are given also as studies considering non-linear distortion and switching losses estimation. A MATLAB Simulink has been used to validate theImplementation of SAPF based on Cascaded Transformers Coupled with Three-Phase Bridge Converters.
