We have measured the Li abundance in a sample of 37 field dwarfs of low metallicity (−0.6 ≥ [Fe/H] ≥ −3.2). Stars with [Fe/H] < −1.4 (“EMD” stars) form a much more homogenous population w.r.t.7Li than do the stars with somewhat higher metallicities. We argue in detail that the warmer EMD stars (6000K< Teff< 6300K) show little Li depletion, and that their asymptotic Li abundance log N(Li) = 2.2 (±0.15) is the best available approximation to a primordial value.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
